Ends up the barrel is pretty obvious :) big and sweet with underlying dark fruits and zesty yeast. Vanilla and oak from the barrels as well. Nice sipper.

NOTB 2011. Pours a hazy light woody brown with a thinning head to nothing. Aroma is fruity, plum, raisin, mixed with sawdust, big american oak- vanilla and some bourbon, char toast, and burnt notes. Flavor is sweet, caramel, toast, butter/vanilla creme, bourbon, phenolic spicy bite with alcohol then some fruitiness in the end with a mostly sweet, non-cloying finish with dusty oak. Not bad.

In short: A pretty basic fruity, caramelized and woody Belgian ale. Just ok.
How: Tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2011
The look: Partly cloudy dark copper body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose has caramel with nice woody notes, not really bourbon. Taste is a bit of a letdown. Ripe fruits covered with caramel, some plain construction wood, notes of stale musty water, notes of walnuts. Lively carbonation. A mostly inoffensive beer, not bad. The beer is called 2x4 and it is indeed very woody. And just so you know, when you get a paper-cut at work its a tree avenging itself beyond the grave for being butchered and turned into 2x4s. Creepy. Now you know.

Sampled on 2/16/2011 on tap at Beer Revolution. This Belgian quad pours a dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, malt, touch of wood and bourbon. A medium to full bodied quad. The malts are dark fruit and sweet with a touch of wood and some bourbon. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Touch of residual sweetness with the bourbon and oak coming in at the end. Good sipping beer, not as sweet as most quads. Perhaps there is no candi sugar added? Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Draft. Pours a hazy amber body with an off white head. Dark fruity body. Light plums and cherry notes, hints of apple and sweet fruit toned esters. A nectar puree with a modest oak vanilla that rolls nicely across the tongue. A nice blend for sure.

A sweet black cherry aroma. The flavor also tastes of black cherries and is so smooth it actually nullifies the extreme bitterness of the Double IPA I just drank. Really good.

Sweet, caramel malts, some Belgian esters, and a nice amount of that sweet Kantuckeh bourbon. A pretty solid barrel-aged Belgium.

Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a hazy brownish gold with a yellowish brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a good amount of barrel, as well as sweet grains, candied sugar and a hint of dark fruit. Flavor was similar with dark fruits and candied sugar, a hint of grapefruit and barrel coming out in the finish.
