Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This yearin honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew were releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the maltwith rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it wont be around for long.

Bottle; Well - Here goes. Pour is a mahogany wonderland - with a nice, fine bubbled khaki head into this glass - it does retain well , with light spotting presence as well. The nose is feint alcohol, toffee, spices, moving to caramel and brown sugars, I suppose. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed as stated, at least to a point. There is a bittering note initial , moving to barrel presence - theres a bit of vanilla here - it moves on to heavy malted notes (caramel, brown sugars, with a touch of toffee), - there is a touch of dark fruit, with some booze, and a bit of whisky reveals itself near the finish line. Its as expected. a nice attempt - but realistically , the base beer, while a classic - just doesnt bring that much to the table nowadays.

750ml bottle if 2015 release. Pours a reddy brown color with a bit of head. Strong whiskey flavor that overpowers a little even after some time to breathe.

Ruby red pour with a single finger head. Hard to see through. Aroma of flowers. Really dry. Taste is full of toffee, caramel and some dankness in the finish. Lots of lace. A little oak, but mostly caramel & toffee.

Carmel colored pour from 22oz bottle in St. Louis. Butterscotch and sweet. Heavy whisky flavor. A massive beer to put it lightly

Aroma is woody, caramel malt, toffee, bourbon, complex. Appearance is burnt orange, off white head. Taste is barrel, woody, booze, a bit of caramel and toffee, bitter, decent. Mouthfeel is medium body and carbonation. Overall, I think this one with age would work better but for now Ill stick to original Bigfoot.

Pours a syrupy dark brown with a small ring of head and nice legs up the glass. Aroma of dark dried fruits, raisins, burnt sugar, wood, vanilla and a touxh of alcohol. Taste is sweet syrupy malts following the flavors of burnt sugar, caramelized brown sugar, raisins, dates, dark dried fruits, vanilla... Incredibly complex flavors with the whiskey barrels of vanilla and light notes of oak and whiskey with a smooth alcohol warming on the finish... Great winter warmer.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2015 2013 bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy ruby/caramel with a thin, off white head. Aroma is a sweet, smooth bourbon, barrel, caramel, dark fruits, and a touch of spirtness. Taste is sweeter but balanced with caramel, bourbon barrel, dark fruits, slight spice and some hope bitterness at the end. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Oily texture with a bone dry finish. Overall a nicely aged American style Barley Wine with caramel, dark fruits, bourbon barrel, and a touch of hope bitterness at the end.

Tried at Craft Beer Market YEG. Sierra Nevada tap takeover Nov 18. The best barley wine I have tasted. Has a nice hoppy, boozy, wine flavour. The barrell aging adds a ton of complexity. Normally not a BW fan but this is drinkable. Would get again.
