On tap at Kickbacks during RBWG. Pours a very dark brown with medium creamy beige head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt and cocoa. Medium mouth with strong pine, toast, light cocoa, very good. pushkinwow (2789) - Ottawa, CANADA - DEC 23, 2013
On tap at Bottleworks. Black with a creamy beige head. Combination of citrus and resin along with a nuttiness and roasted malt, some coffee grinds, moderate+ carbonation and full body, bitter, bubbly, boozy and interesting. TourDeBeer (123) - your mummas pants, AUSTRALIA - NOV 24, 2013
Tastes different. Not sure if I like it, I might update this after I've had a couple

Smokey and perfectly balanced. So shocked.how good this brew is. Flavors are amazing. Moderate palate, but full body and delicious. Awesome brew! FlacoAlto (4182) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 14, 2013
A steady pour into my wine glass produces a two finger thick, light brown tinged, dark tan colored head. The beer is a dark brown color. The nose smells dominated by hop character; herbal, pine notes and lots of citrus notes are anchored by secondary notes of roasted, toasted, and malty notes in the finish.

Soft, smooth, but with a lightly prickly carbonation; the beer has a viscosity to it, but remains quite light and quaffable. Hoppy pine like flavors dominate here, but there are light citrus and fruit notes here as well; soft curacao orange peel, grapefruit, and some burnt lychee notes. The malt character is quite soft, but contributes a nice whole grain toasted bread character, a brown maltiness, and it accentuates the bitterness in the finish with a roasted bitter finish. The beer has quite a bit of hop bitterness to it as well, and this is noticeable from beginning to end of each sip, though it is a bit more noticeable in the finish.
Definitely a solid Black IPA; enjoyable if you like such a beast, but not transcendent enough if you don’t.
A - Black as night all the way through. Mocha tan head on top.
S - Lime, aloe vera, grapefruit, fresh wet hops. Slightly smokey molasses malt.
T - Follows the nose. Lime and grapefruit dominate on top of a smoked oaky malt. Dark chocolate creeps in along with coffee and pine notes on the finish. The hops are bold from start to finish. The aftertaste is a lime coffee flavor. It sounds gross but I can assure it is not. This is my first black IPA and I loved it! When you can cross a beautifully smoked porter with a quality IPA this what you get. I’m very excited about the opportunities of this style.

Tap at Kickbacks, RBWG. Dark muddy brown with a thin white lace. Nose is dusty, light roast, ash, bittersweet cocoa, light pine. Flavor is similar, lightly smoky, more ash, not much hop character. drowland (8676) - Georgia, USA - FEB 26, 2013
2/26/13. On tap at Kickback’s. Thanks for tapping this rare tick, Steve! Black pour, maybe deep brown, with a nice tan head that sticks and laces a ton. Nice roast aroma with a touch of acidity and aged, earthy hops. Nice malty flavor with earth, roast, chocolate, and earthy hops. More of a porter after time, but still a tasty one! jbruner (4734) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - FEB 25, 2013
2010 on draught at Kickback’s for RBWG! Pours an opaque black brown with thin tan ring of head and light lacing. Aroma of slight piney hops, then roasted dark chocolate and coffee notes. Taste follows with a nice malt backbone and still a surprising amount of hop presence for the age. Slightly bitter finish, damn good. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 24, 2013
Tap at Kickbacks, 2010 keg. Not sure why they aged this Black IPA. Pours a deep ruby with awesome head formation and retention. Sheets of thick lacing. Nose is dusty, cheesy. Taste is powdery, spicy, dusty, minty. Palate was thin, dusty, chalky. No body left, no density.
