Edge of Darkness is deep chestnut brown color. The light roast continues in the flavor and feels relatively dry (drier than the apparent extract would suggest!), but with a nice malty sweetness as well. Hop character is slightly piney and slightly spicy, but not overpowering. Definitely an assertive hop character, but balanced into the roast malts nicely. A nice, big hop bitterness along with a pleasant amount of dark malt roast character in the finish along with significant alcohol warming to the back of the throat.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate brown color with a short head and not too much lacing. Nose brings some light caramel, toast, and earth as well as a fairly strong hop presence. The taste draws back on the hops, adding in some more earth and light wood as well as some darker malts. Good body with nice carbonation. Slightly dry. Drinks fairly well but not as good as the other boot camp beer I had, the 22 Bines. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-25-2010

Draft at DRE 4Q 09. Pours hazy dark blackish brown with off-tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, hops. Tastes rich, complex, with roasty dark malt, dark choc, cacao, hazelnut, brown sugar, hops. Complex and delicious.

Easy drinker and really nothing to complain about but on the other hand, not much to get excited about. Typical brown ale that leans a tad towards the dark roasty porter/stout side.

Pretty to look at in the glass. Soft palate feels very nice on the tongue. Fairly well balanced if not a bit leaning towardsd the hops. Decent but I would not have a second.

On tap at Flying Sauce in Houston. Pours black with a tan head. Nose was of nut and roast malt. Taste was of coffee, roast malt and nut. Mouthfeel was medium and bitter. OK, but failed to impress.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a dark ruby with a medium light beige head. The aroma is a sweet caramel and floral hop. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter hop flavor and nice lingering dry finish. Easy to drink a very good brown ale from sierra nevada.

On tap at Church Key DC: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a large frothy, well-lacing light tan head. Has a fresh citrusy hop nose with a lightly toasted caramel maltiness. Starts with a nice light sweetness with some nutty character and lots of resiny piny hop flavor before a drier, crisp, bittersweet finish. A nice hoppy brown ale.

[Draft @ Drafting Room Spring House] Dark brown with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, citrus fruits, caramel malts, nuts, roast, and light cocoa. Taste of cocoa, caramel malts, nuts, citrus fruits, tobacco, and a bitter, grapefruit finish.
