Had this while camping at BCTC this year, pouring from Kevin’s truck, courtesy of Matt. Pours a deep brown to black with a thin to medium sized beige head. Toast, roast, cheerios, corn nuts and smoke. Slightly metallic roast. Toast, nuts. I was looking for dark fruit in here, didn’t really find a lot of it. Chocolate and toast on the finish. Draft at CAH. Pours black, with mahogany ruby red look through direct light, and 1f ow head. Nose is roasty rauchy dark malt, dark choc, molasses, hops. On tap, BCTC, thanks to Matt and Kevin for this one! Black pour with a large frothy light brown head that fell to a thin film and left lots of lacing. The nose is roast, chocolate, some light licorice, just a suggestion of smoke, and some light citrusy hops. The flavor is a balance between the sweet residual sugars and some slightly bitter roasted malt, giving it a whole lot of complexity. Some lighter hints of licorice still, but I don’t especially get much smoke at all, light citrusy hops accent. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with light soft fizzy carbonation. [Draft @ Teresas] Nearly opaque black color with a medium tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, burnt wood, and cocoa. Taste of roast, smoke, burnt toast, light caramel, and a dry finish.

BCTC 2010. Pours with a big head and nice carbonation- dark woody brown near black. Aroma is big thick chocolate malts, some light roast, wood, earth, leather, hints of campfire and smoke, tootsie roll and caramel. Flavor is crystal malt sweetness, chocolate malts, toffee, tootsie roll sugary sweetness, earth, smoke, leather, dust and cracker with a solid finish. Draught at TND: Aroma of roasted malt, slight chocolate, slight hops, and a hint of vanilla. Poured extremely dark amber/dark brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of roasted malt, slight chocolate, slight vanilla, grains, bitter hops, slight piney hops, and a hint of smoke. Medium body. Grey Lodge on draft .... Tap at SN, listed at 5.8%. Black with clear Ruby edges and a one finger dark beige head, fair retention. Aroma is mainly mixed roasted nuts with some soy, chocolate following. Flavor turns more milk chocolatey but still has the elements of soy, light vanilla is added. Light alcohol noted. Finishes semi-dry with some grainy notes, bitterness at a 4 and kinda burnt. Moderate carbonation with a medium body. Not bad, but seems more like a big robust brown than a porter.
