22oz counter-pressure-filled handbottle. Nice crisp aroma of foreign-stout-like dark roasted malts, some hazelnut, a bit of chocolate syrup and lots of bright snappy sugar tones. Pours a dark black-brown, with a good ring of head. This is a really solid example, in my opinion. With a bit of age on this bottle, it comes across as well-married and mingled. Bright fresh maltiness, paired with just a fantastic dark malt bill, clean lagering, and some subtle distant hint of spice. Solid body, well balanced by alcohol and roast. Yum! Thanks Andy! Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a dark brown with tan head. Aroma of dark roasted grain. Flavor is the same with a nice dark roastd bitter with a nice sweetness and faint brown sugar. Seriously, this beer is kinda hard for me to explain, I just really like it, plain and simple. Good shit! TeamTrappist (832) - jericho, New York, USA - DEC 2, 2010
Tap at Rattle N Hum. Poured a dark black. Nose is a bit sour and wine like. A bit thinned out but lots of big flavors. Pruny with other dark fruit notes. Fairly tart with a very dry finish. Different than most of this style but really good. j12601 (13304) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - DEC 3, 2010
On tap at Rattle n Hum during their Sierra Nevada event. Pours a dark brown to black with a thin to medium sized tan head. Sweet roast, plum, cocoa, and char on the nose. Chewy sweet malt and a bunch of cocoa. Medium bodied, very chewy. Sweet and smooth, lots of roast, cocoa, and big char as it warms up. vtafro (7451) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - APR 12, 2011
Draft @ Rattle ’N’ Hum SN event. Dark pour with a bit of tan head. Dark fruit, dark malt, toffee, caramel, some roasted aromas. Aging has made for some oxidation in the flavor, not a bad thing per say, dark fruits, sweet malt, and some boozy undertones.

Tap at RnH. 1 year old sample, according the rep. Some excellent oxidation and aging in this one, very surprising. Had the flavor profile of an excellently aged imperial stout. Port, berry, a touch of balsamic. Medium-thick body, butterscotch finish. Orange zest. Very nice. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - NOV 30, 2010
tap @ RnH - definitely not like most Baltic porters I’ve had. Molasses, brown sugar chocolate sweet honey, sugary sweet smooth palate, licorice and malty.Surprisingly good. Dickinsonbeer (5073) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 27, 2010
Tap at RNH. Pours a big brown/black good lasting head. Aroma is big monstrous roasty with big dark chocolate, hints of coffee, toast, oxidized sherry, plum and fruity esters. Flavor is also fruity with plum fig, dark raisin, sherry, big roast, chocolate malt, earth, light wood- gets slight papery then tannic grapeskin with seeds, plummy prunes, jammy, deep burnt toast, then a light dry herbal and earthy finish with more roasted malts and medium hop bitterness. Good stuff. slowrunner77 (13206) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 5, 2014
"@Sierra Nevada: not as big as i was expecting with the aroma...some chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, etc...but the flavor was huge. all of the above and licorice, alcohol, prunes/raisins, just big. it was quite tasty as it warmed up (what started out a little over sweet became more balanced near room temp). pretty black with some thin brown head and lacing, medium-full mouthfeel. a nice beer." zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - FEB 1, 2010
(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Had this a few weeks back and finally figured out what exactly it was so I could add it. Dark black pour with a creamy looking tan head. Aroma is heavily roasted with a lot of chocolate and burnt black malts. Coffee and chocolate begin the flavor and pretty much dominated it with a very nicely roasted malt and a rich and bitter cocoa finish. Smooth and chewy and really nice. Hopefully this becomes one of their seasonals?
