Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Imperial Pilsner

RATINGS: 312   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.44/5   SEASONAL: Series   IBU: 38   EST. CALORIES: 168   ABV: 5.6%
Produced especially for the OBF, Beer Camps golden color and medium bodied sweetness comes from pale, Europils, Munich and acidulated malts. Magnum, Crystal and Pacifica hops provide a distinctly American bittering and hop flavor profile without going over the top. The result is a refreshing, balanced, crisp pilsner, easy to drink on a hot summer festival day - or to take with you to beer camp.

MacDouglass' rating

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 14/20
MacDouglass (88) - Illinois, USA - JAN 21, 2013
Aroma: something citrusy and a crisp, appetizing hop boquet; Appearance: light golden w/ sediment (unless my glass was unclean; I got the glass as a Christmas present this year and didnt wash it before I used it...), a slightly off-white head that quickly dissipates after the pour; Taste: malt actually slightly predominates the hops, very well balanced between the two though, some booze, and a bit sweet, all youd expect in something that calls itself "imperial"; Palate: hops might linger a little longer than desired, my wife mentioned that its a little heavier than she expected for a pilsner; Overall: very enjoyable overall, my wife and I both really like it, and its always nice to find a beer that we can both really enjoy, Id recommend it to any pilsner fan, way to go SN

BOTTLE. (poured 7th Jan 2015) Hazy straw with foamy white head. Faint hops on the nose, more wheat & honey. Hoppy bitterness upfront, honey is strong at the back end with a sticky finish. Sourced Cellabrations @ Capel

"I dunno why they call this an imperial pilsner when its only 5.6%, but by the 2nd or 3rd sip... I dont care. For a normal abv pils, its very nice. A little on the crisp hoppy side, like I like em, with a backbone of bread, especially in the nose. The feel was a strongpoint as the beer did a little jig on the tongue."

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear gold pour with a puffy white head. Tangy hop and citrus aroma with some dry malt underneath. Flavor is pretty standard pilsener. Light hops at the start, dry malt middle and a crisp bitter finish. Kind of uneventful.

Not my go to style but still good beer. Pour is orange in color with a medium white head and tons of bubbles in the glass. Aroma is light and boring. Easy drinker that is light and malty with a touch of hops on the finsh.

Straw yellow with a quickly fading medium white head. Aroma is grassy and Noble with sweet bready malt. Taste of grassy and noble hops and some perfumed malt. Easy drinking and boring why waste a beer camp slot on a freaking Pilsner?

Im currently rating every SN brew Ive ever had in one clean sweep. I grew up on the classic SN Pale having it around during high school, and since have watched SN grow into a national representation of incredible craft beer. Living 45 mins away is a treat for the random growler fill. Keep up the amazing work and thanks!

Clear gold beer with a small white head. Slightly soft palate with good fine carbonation. Light and soft creamy malt. Mild floral note and mild minerals. Nice touch of orangey hops. Finishes smooth, A very nice pilsner but the palate being so soft for the style, reduces drinkability.

Clean cereal malt and grassy hop aroma from a crystal clear medium yellow/gold body with a foamy white head. The aroma follows into the taste with a lemony/citrus flavor. Good pilsner taste with a bit more malt sweetness and less crisp hop bite than usual, but very tasty nonetheless. Finishes with a lasting earthy bitterness and grain aftertaste. Probably should have rated this last year when it was fresher, but its my last one so better late than never! Another good Beer Camp beer from SN.
