12oz bottle pours with a clear ruby red amber sort of colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The modest aroma has some roasted malts, malt sweetness, some vague hops and sweet dark fruity esters. The taste delivers roasted malts, malt sweetness, some pine hops, grassy resiny hops and a lime like citrus bitter hoppiness. Behind those notes murmurs sweet cherry to prune dark fruity esters. Not bad. jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - SEP 23, 2013

12 ounce bottle from the recent Beer Camp 12-pack ($19.99 for 12-pack). Pours a brown-red (ice tea) color with a finger and a half of beige-ish foam leaving some lacing. AROMA of floral and herbal earthy hops with some citrus with an almost equal amount of nutty brown malts. FLAVOR has an initial strong citric hoppiness along with some pine but soon moves toward nutty caramel malts. An almost chocolate-like sweet flavor in the finish along with some bitter hops. Well-concealed alcohol. Not sure why Sierra Nevada ran an "imperial red" in two consecutive beer camp packs, but I think I prefer the 2012 version more than this one. The hop profile in the 2012 version was more interesting, while this one seems to try to make a 50:50 split between hops and malt. (137, 814) Tmoney99 (14622) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 21, 2013
Bottle. Poured a clear ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good malt and west coast citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid brew. A lightly hazed reddish amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with good piney and floral hops, fragrant. In mouth a good caramel and vinous malt with treacle, loads of piney floral hops, pink grapefruit, loads of alcohol, very nice. Ron (3999) - Rochester, New York, USA - SEP 21, 2013
Bottle from my Bro Pete for my B-Day. Pours a dark amber with red highlights. The aroma is sweet with caramel and bread. The flavor has the sweetness up front but quickly gives way to the citrus and peppery hops. Quite dry with a very nice after taste. The alcohol is hidden. ESBob (379) - Indiana, USA - SEP 20, 2013
2013 Beer Camp Version. Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and ample tan head. Aroma is a ripe floral fruit hop note. Taste is a nice blend of roast caramel malt and hops. Very good.
