Bottle to snifter (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good; pitch black with thin tan lacing. Smells of chocolate and malt. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Abv is hidden well too. Solid beer. umich03jm (3513) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - AUG 26, 2012
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2012 Pours a deep black color with almost no head. Aroma is very roasty and coffee-like. Slight amount of chocolate comes through too. Taste is overpowering roasted coffee and not much else. Slightly sweet up front and very bitter in the finish. Finish has a pretty big alcohol burn too. Very thin and oily body is not very good here either. This beer should be better. Not complex enough and too much alcohol burn. Blairgus (4613) - California, USA - AUG 26, 2012
26 Aug 2012, bottle. black with thick foamy head. nose is tart burnt coffee beans. med/full body and lightly fizzy. dark coffee almost sets your teeth on edge. not too bitter. nice oatmeal malt background. pretty decent. hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 26, 2012
12oz bottle. Deep brown pour with a smaller sized tan head. Aromas potting soil, roast, coffee grinds, oats, and some chocolate. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, oats, earthy, and a splash of vanilla. Alcohol content well hidden for 9%. brokensail (16444) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 26, 2012
Viscous and black on the pour with a finger of tan head. Rich oatmeal and toffee sweetness on the nose. Plenty of roasted malt, a nice creamy chocolate character, coffee, and some hints of vanilla to it as well. The flavor is pleasantly sweet with chocolate, toffee, and vanilla notes. A moderate roasted malt flavor along with a touch of coffee give a light bitterness. There’s a touch of licorice on the finish. Carbonation is a little high for me, but nothing that ruins the beer.

Pours a dark, impenetrable black, with a small coffee like head quick to dissipate. Smells of yeast, and more lightly vanilla and oats. Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Despite not smelling it, actually quite bitter. Hits with a dark malt bitterness, hits with some alcohol that the bitterness then balances out for a dry finish. If anything, taste more of dark coffee, just real bitter. Not bad but I’m still searching for the perfect Oatmeal Stout r464 (2360) - Earth, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 25, 2012
Dark with a thick tan head. Very toasty roasty malt with cocoa and coffee. Smooth, rich, and a bit thick. Strong finish. cbfobes (2883) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - AUG 24, 2012
Poured from bottle, pours a very dark brown with a tan head and lacing, aroma has a good amount of chocolate and malt, flavor has a nice chocolate front end with a finish malt and toffee, really not all that bad.

A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet malty chocolate with light herbal notes. In mouth, a nice sweet and bitter chocolate with licorice, nice powdery notes, warming alcohol. On tap at Aces and Ales Strong Beer Fest August 10, 2012. MAFountain (19) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA - AUG 24, 2012
Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, faint alcohol, some vanilla.
Appearance: Very dark, some brown, and amber highlights as light tries to shine through. The head was very minimal, with a mocha tint.
Taste: A medium bitter profile.
Palate: Medium-bodied for this style, fizzy, with a long finish. Some creamy notes.
Overall: This beer surprised me. It’s a decent representation of the style. I would buy this year round if it was offered. Worth seeking out if you enjoy the style.
