A traditional farmhouse ale, with an essence of orange, coriander, and spicy pepper overtones. Saison Versa is refreshing and light with a more complex yeast character than its cousin the Saison vice.

Tap at RnH. Odd yeast character in this one, kind of eggy, super dry, parsley, salt. Not as traditional as the Vice, but a solid saison none-the-less.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. Fairly similar to Vice. Golden/yellow and hazy with a bit of white head. Aroma is fairly faint, more citrusy with some lemon and orange and some yeasty notes. Light and refreshing, bit of a peppery finish.

On tap at The Ginger Man. I tried this side by side with the SN Vice, and the Versa was better - a little richer and more flavorful. This appeared to be an unfiltered wheat ale, with a bit of sharpness to it. Good.

Great saison, a little too harsh on the palate, kind of stripped the top of my mouth off, but great yeast and citrus flavor, almost wit-like. On tap at the Ginger Man NYC. fair aroma but not terribly outstanding. nearly perfect color, and great flavor. very enjoyable.

Draft at Gingerman NY. LIght golden body, clear. Fizzy, white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of toasted grain, hay, pepper, coriander, flowers, perfume and herbs. On top of it all is a musky earthiness. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes light to moderately bitter, lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Variety of spicy tastes along with the earthy undertones give this saison a nice complexity. The peppery, bitter finish was a bonus, though it is a bit sweet and could be dryer. Overall, a very nice saison.

(draft @ Tap and Mallet - Rochester, NY) Clear gold with a fizzy white head. Dry and yeasty aroma with mild spice and bitterness. Flavor starts off with that same dry and bitter hint with a slightly mild spice underneath it. Dry and very carbonated with a bitter finish.

On tap at ABC, meet and greet sierra. Back to back with vice. This one pours out a darker golden compared to the Vice but still not too dark. Great lacing on this one as well, with a big frothy head. I found this one had a little bit more complexity to it across the board. The finishes were similar, but this one had a nice citrus entry. Loved them both, fortunate to have them back to back.

On tap at the Gingerman when I stopped in with Joe after Paul’s tasting. Pours a very clear yellow with a thin white head. Dirty musk and faint brett. Clean musk with a light bitterness. Very dry, crisp and clean. Nice big lingering musk, dry and faintly bretty on the finish.

Pwn3d (1958) - Manhattan, New York, USA - OCT 7, 2010
On tap at pony bar. Pour is slighty hazy copper. Clove, coriander, herbal/floral, doughy. Has a slight astringent finish.. Sessionable but a bit too light bodied.
