2016 Beer Camp Across America Collaboration with Austin Beerworks, Bayou Teche, Creature Comforts, Funky Buddha, and Wicked Weed

The south holds strong to its traditional flavors--tea, honey-sweet peaches, and corn grits--so we looked at those culinary cues for this southern-inspired table beer. With a golden grainy malt body and complex tangy finish from the fruit, tea, and herbs, Sweet Sunny South is perfect for sultry summer sipping.

This rustic ale features Southern twists including corn grits, tea leaves and plenty of sweet fruit, peaches, papaya, guava and prickly pear - for an easy-drinking beer.

Very hazy golden and honey coloured body with a nice, thick, three to four centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of yeast, bready funk, grass, herbs, some mellow fruits like apples and pears and then a hit of tea? Light to Medium-bodied; Grassy, herbal funk at first with very light malt notes that show some wheat and grain with a noticeable sweetness and funk from the tea and especially the yeast. Aftertaste shows a soft complexity with the funk and grass really coming out, then showing a soft sugar sweetness from the fruits with a little bit of zest and citrus flavour noticeable and ending with a complex yeast bite from the nice strain. Overall, a surprisingly nice, refreshing and complex beer for the style - very welcome indeed and well worth trying to find, if you can still grab it somewhere! I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from the full twelve pack, at Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 08-June-2016 for US$22,99/twelve pack, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Pungoteague, Virginia on 02-September-2017.

Bottle. Pours a softly hazed gold with a large white head. Sweet and softly floral on the nose, peach and honey, guava. Medium bodied, soft and fruity, light guava and papaya notes come through. Peach as well. Gentle wheat and corn. Fun and easy, lovely fruitiness without getting anywhere near cloying.

Bottle. Cool beer! Slightly hazy light yellow pour with a white head. Peach and tea aroma, plus some yeast. Very pleasant slightly fruity taste. Great summer beer.

Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters showing a hazed, golden hue, with a frothy layer of white foam, and wavy strands of lacing. The nose was light lemon, tangerine/cuties, pit fruit, a hint of spice, and some grass & greenery. The taste was similar notes, light to medium bodied, with spritzy, seltzer-like carbonation. Not bold, but enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle enjoyed with hayduke via facebook chat. Yellow beer that has some haze and plenty of visible carbonation. A big soft white head. Belgian yeast and complex fruit in the aroma. The flavor could be fruit syrup. It has unripen stone fruit, tea, and herbal notes. It is fairly sour to begin but that settles. Peach flavors emerge along with lesser tropical flavors. This was not my favorite of the Beer Camp series.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours a translucent gold with a white head. Nose is citrus and fruit. Not tropical fruit. Maybe some other fruit. Medium body. Flavor is tart with a lot of the stone fruit which is now peaches. Finishes bitter and quite dry. Overall the flavors are a bit odd and I would not call this one easy drinking.

12oz bottle pours with a glowing copper to gold body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers up spicy notes, fruity esters, citrus, banana and a light maltiness. The taste is all over the place with citrus blended with banana, spices, apricot and pear like esters and then a light biscuit to pils like malt sensation. Lots of flavor going on here. It ends with lingering banana and malts. Fun flavor.

12 oz. bottle from the 2016 pack, purchased at Stop ’n Go. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold with a small white head that settles into a sloppy ring, as it leaves trailing lace, and a thin film. Really nice aroma, with lemon, peaches, tea, grapes, pears, light funk, pale bready malts, and grass. The flavor doesn’t have the same complexity or depth, with pale malts, seltzer, light lemon, minerals, and light stone fruits. But then a weird thing happens- the aroma loses its tart edge and becomes more like the flavor. Really odd. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a light, dry, barely funky mouthfeel. Good, but the initial aroma had my hopes that it’d be better.

Pours gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma is floral, citrus, caramel and grass. Taste is sweet with a light bitter bite. Light bodied, smooth with good carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a nice hazy yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light rustic malt notes with some bready yeast, tropical fruit and nice leafy hops notes. Taste is a nice mix of bready yeast notes with some light rustic malt and some tropical fruits and leafy hops notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice mix of flavours with some really good drinkability.
