COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

2016 bottle poured into a pilsner showing well filtered caramel brown with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows sweet caramel malts. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. No sweetness and completely dry with flavors of light caramel malts but a strange hoppy bitterness that is ever present throughout. Bitterness lasts even on the linger. Moderate alcohol spiciness throughout. Perhaps, I drank this a bit too fresh. Itd be very interesting to see it age and the bitterness fade away.

Packed 01/06/16. Poured a translucent copper colour with a one-to two-finger tan frothy head that retained extremely well but laced poorly in rings. Carbonation high, lively and fine. Aroma distinctly sweet of sweet dark fruits and sweet rich caramel with alcohol present but not overly obvious. Taste of slight pine, slight grapefruit, sweet malt, brown sugar and spices; low bitterness; a slight alcohol burn with the alcohol becoming more obvious as it warms. Heavy body. Smooth and syrupy with a soft mouthfeel and a sweet finish with subtle spiciness. One to be sipped slowly over time.

2006 - wow cant believe Ive never rated this. The aroma is caramel and a little roasty. Pours a golden dark brown, virtually no head and no lacing. The taste is bitter. The body is full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish bitter. I bet the review would be better with a fresher version.

Deep red. A big complex malt profile with caramel, fruity esters, some hop flavour and a bit of alcohol are the order of the day here. The taste is very rich, sweet, a little spicy and pungent, and is followed by a heavily bitter hoppy finish. Full body, with a soft and rounded mouthfeel. Overall, an incredible barley wine. Sierra Nevada really nailed the balance here. While it is both sweet and highly hopped, I savoured every sip from start to finish. It is just incredibly tasty, and does not go over the top. Looking forward to the next bottle.

Bottle 2015. Pours dark amber, clear with small white head. Aroma of toffee, burned caramel, red berries. In taste sweet with caramel and some fruits, nothing very complex. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Bit disappointing.
