3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011. Amber color. Rich, head. Nice lacing. Slight hop aroma. Excellent carbonation. Nice balanced taste. Hops are present but subdued by good malt backbone. Not a lot of experience with barleywines but I liked this beer.
Overall Bigfoot is just what you would expect from a Gold Medal Winner. I was recently introduced to Barley Wine over at Dry County and Sierra Nevada was my second shot at this style and was also excellent. Starting to become a real big fan of the Barley Wine style. Nice fruity bouquet; an extremely rich palate. Very well balanced. hauxe (864) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - SEP 17, 2017
Pours brown from the bottle. The off white head is creamy. Aroma is apple, plum, raisin, caramel. Pleasant. Taste is sweet with a mild bitterness that is particularly noticeable at the finish. Body is medium to heavy, carbonation is mild. Overall goes down dangerously easy. Good. BrewWhatIWant (263) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 10, 2017
This is a 2016 bottle. Pours a reddish orange with a yellow head. Aroma is citrus, pine and a little malt. Taste is moderately sweet, moderately bitter. There are notes of malt, citrus, pine, and fruit. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. I had been looking forward to trying a barleywine for a long time, so perhaps it just didn't live up to my expectations, but it felt more like a dipa. Not especially malty, and surprisingly hoppy with hop character similar to Sierra nevadas pale ale. Plenty of alcohol too. Malin_aiisa (1205) - SWEDEN - SEP 1, 2017

Taste of sweet round raisin.

Bottle @ THT. Pours a clear amber beer with a thin off white head on top. Aroma is typical barley wine, some extracts, lactose, some nice piney and grassy hops in there though, like a strong DIPA. Also some light boozy and red fruits in there. Flavor is bittersweet, light hoppy with a decent boozy background, lots of malty influences and just not all that interesting. Well made, just a bit bland.

Subtle aromas of sugar candy, grassy hops and floral characters. Tastes of toffee apple, butterscotch, pine, citrus hops, ginger bread and herbal characters. Dominated by IPA-style fruity hops with long bittersweet orange peel finish. Mouthfeel is dry and slightly dusty. This is a big beer at 9.6% alc vol but the alcohol is reasonably well disguised. Would be even better with a little age. UPDATED: AUG 23, 2017 One of my favorite beers. A great combination of lots of malty sweetness and flavor and lots of grassy hop flavor and bitterness. Love it. j.hi (24) - - AUG 23, 2017
Dark malt color. Small bubbles. Creamy malted taste with strong hops underneath. Take your time and savor. Can't gulp this beer. Taste lingers for very long. One of my favorite If you like intense beer.

Shared at the August THT. Pours a typical boozy barleywine. Boring. Bland and boozy.
