COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

Euston Tap. Keg. Opaque black beer, little pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and smooth with fine minerally carbonation. Smooth and light dark malt. just the barest whisper of roast. Hops are light and semi sweet citric, little orange peel. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Light roast bitterness in the aftertaste. Tasty beer but really coming over as a Porter more than a Black IPA.

Keg at the Euston Tap - London. Pours dark brown with a fine, tight tan cream head. The nose holds burnt malts, dry pine, some herbal hops. Medium sweet flavor with wet burt wood, muddy dirt, some dry cocoa, moderate roast, nips of alcohol. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Some burnt toast on the finish, subtle resinous pine, light alcohol burn, some grapefruit and baking cocoa. Decent but I would expect more from SN.

Bottle split in the hotel lobby, RBWG ’16, 03 02/16. Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a decent khaki head. Nose is dusty hop, straw, light charr, earthy notes, disappointingly thin. Taste comprises light pine, earthy roast, liquorice, charr, cocoa rub, red berry linger. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close doused with earthy hop bitterness. Ok CDA.

Very dark brown pour with a khaki head. Nose is roasty with some herbal and pine hops. Citrus notes of grapefruit, a touch of soap, and a light malt sweetness. The flavor is fairly bitter and pine forward. Woody herbs, grapefruit, and quite a bit of roast. Light malt sweetness, chocolate, and a hint of coffee.
