A: The pour is an impenetrable black color with a minimal tan head forming and leaving a thin ring around the glass.
S: The nose is quite roasty with some dark chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Licorice and dark, almost burnt, sugar provides some more sweetness.
T: Lots of roasted malts and an almost smokey flavor. Quite sweet with plenty of licorice, molasses, and dark caramel. This is a very sweet beer, much more so than I would have expected.
M: The body is medium with a low, smooth carbonation.

Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Deep black pour. The nose is quite fresh and clean with a touch of light dark roastiness. A slight touch of molasses and a touch of light roastiness on the finish. Softly earthy maltiness with a touch of light grassiness on the finish. Clean tasting although there is a touch of anise. Authentically malty with a very clean yeast profile. On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours nearly black with a very small tan head that fades quickly. Aromas of dark fruit, vanilla, chocolate, leather, raisins and berries. SD Strong Ale Fest 2010. Black color/ fleeting tan head. Nice chocolate, black licorice, roasty aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Tasty chocolate, dark roast malt, black coffee, black licorice spice flavors.

On tap @ Pizza Port Bressi Ranch. Pours super dark watery brown with thin pale mocha head. Aroma is slightly tart mild chocolate malt. Taste is bitter roasty malt with smooth chocolate flavor. Black cherry and faint vanilla notes on the clean dry finish. Very drinkable for a baltic porter - doesn’t seem like 8.4% abv.
