Tap at Strong Ale Fest. Pours deep brown to near black. Weaker foam. Nose is sweet cola, raisins, cinnamon, dark bread roll. Taste is Abbey Quadrupel style with plums, raisins, sweet cola. Too sweet for me and seems incorrect for style. o_Merlin_o (225) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 7, 2013
One of the darkest beers I've ever seen. Completely opaque. Aroma of sweet coffee beans. Definite coffee flavor. A beautifully strong beer!

On tap @ Pizza Port Bressi Ranch. Pours super dark watery brown with thin pale mocha head. Aroma is slightly tart mild chocolate malt. Taste is bitter roasty malt with smooth chocolate flavor. Black cherry and faint vanilla notes on the clean dry finish. Very drinkable for a baltic porter - doesn’t seem like 8.4% abv.

A: The pour is an impenetrable black color with a minimal tan head forming and leaving a thin ring around the glass.
S: The nose is quite roasty with some dark chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Licorice and dark, almost burnt, sugar provides some more sweetness.
T: Lots of roasted malts and an almost smokey flavor. Quite sweet with plenty of licorice, molasses, and dark caramel. This is a very sweet beer, much more so than I would have expected.
M: The body is medium with a low, smooth carbonation.
D: A little too sweet to be able to drink much of this, but still a good beer. I think I prefer Empire Strikes Black, though. BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - NOV 15, 2010
On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours nearly black with a very small tan head that fades quickly. Aromas of dark fruit, vanilla, chocolate, leather, raisins and berries. Flavors of banana, vanilla, roast, fruit, rye bread, and a caramel sweetness. Medium carbonation. dukeredhair (243) - California, USA - SEP 6, 2010
Good but not great by any stretch. I don’t know if I am a fan of the style in general. Aroma, not much there to be honest. A bit of roast and stone fruit, cherry? fig?. Appearance is black very thin head. Taste is where this misses the mark. It’s a bit like a watery stout. The roast is there in the taste more than the aroma but still a bit weak. I’m missing the complexity here. Palate is nice but a bit thin and dry for me. Overall it’s worth trying but perhaps not re-trying. JoeMcPhee (9519) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 28, 2010
Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Deep black pour. The nose is quite fresh and clean with a touch of light dark roastiness. A slight touch of molasses and a touch of light roastiness on the finish. Softly earthy maltiness with a touch of light grassiness on the finish. Clean tasting although there is a touch of anise. Authentically malty with a very clean yeast profile. tokyogoat (1503) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 10, 2010
A decent offering, well worth the money and i’d possibly get it again. Just didn’t knock my socks off. Slightly bland, watery body, weak nose, i’ve had much better.
