Sierra Nevada / Duvel Moortgat Beer Camp Hoppy Belgian-Style Golden Ale

RATINGS: 150   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.64/5   SEASONAL: Special   IBU: 35   EST. CALORIES: 240   ABV: 8%
We’re combining elements of Duvel’s classic golden ale with Sierra Nevada’s hop-forward fanaticism to create a new beer that highlights both. The complex and fruity nature of Duvel’s signature yeast is the first thing that greets you, followed shortly by a blast of bright, citrusy hops. The beer also has a touch of lemon peel for a pop that greets the palate right at the finish of this deceptively drinkable and complex beer.

Pours pale gold with medium head that leaves ample lacing; floral and citrus fruit notes on the nose; light, crisp mouth feel with an off-dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow gold body with a one finger fizzy white head. The nose is bright and lemony with some clean pale malt and a slight sweetness. The flavor is pretty nice, fruity and sweet with a nice subtle hint of lemon on the finish. A nice citrusy hoppiness before the lemon comes on really ties it all together. Slightly sweet and fruity finish. Light bodied and very drinkable with fine fizzy carbonation. Pretty good beer, surprised that I liked this so much.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a medium sized white head. Crisp lemon and a bit of dusty hops, a touch of wheat and grain. Medium bodied, crisp and clean, nice smooth lemon note with a bit of soft citrus behind it. Slow bitterness on the finish.

Pours clear golden with dissipating white head. Unpleasant combo of american hops and belgian yeasts, very similar to those of Duvel's Triple hop Citra. Apple, pear, hint of bubblegum etc. Fruity, citeusy hop profile, crisp like malt backbone. Medium bodied, smooth texture, moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Orange with an inch of white head that fades slowly. Aroma of spiced dough, oranges, lemons, Meyer lemons. Perhaps slightly sweeter, heavier and less carbonated than Duvel and the lower alcohol maybe makes the end seem a little less dry. Approaches the seamless harmony of Duvel. Worked really well.

From the mix pack. Bottle ->tulip. Clear lite copper-gold with wispy white head, high carbonation. A: pilsner malt and hops, Belgian yeast, cracker. T: strong yeast and malt, with grassy hops lingering. Eh.

AWISLguy (3368) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 5, 2017
12 ounce bottle from the Beer Camp pack via Brook Falls in Brookfield. A clear golden orange pour with an off-white head leaving some lacing. Aroma has tangy spicy yeast, some lemon, some stone fruits and some hay. Taste is of sweet fruits and malts, tangy yeast with some breadiness and some tart apple. Medium bodied, and thicker than expected, the blend is only ok, and is inferior to the nose. Finishes spicy tangy fruity. Shrug? Hoped for more.

It pours golden with an off white head with lacing. It is clear. It has strong barnyard aromas with some floral and spice. There is also low bread and slight wine. There are strong barnyard and earthy flavors with spice and slight floral elements. It has low bread and a very low winy element. It has a slight tart aftertaste that is quite dry. Overall, it features earthen elements with a very dry finish.

Bottle from 2017 Beer Camp 12pk. Light golden body, clear. lively carbonation. Small but dense head. Nice yeasty aroma, malts and grains. Taste also favors the yeast, floral, herbal, and the grains provide a base. Taste fades, and finishes fast. Lingering yeasty notes.
