COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Each year, we partner with a different German brewer to explore the roots of Germany’s famous Oktoberfest beers. This year, we’re collaborating with Germany’s Brauhaus Faust in Miltenberg, whose approach to the classic style we’ve long admired. The result is a festival beer true to their style—deep golden in color with deceptively rich malt flavor and balanced by traditional German-grown whole-cone hops.

Color is more brassy, between yellow lager and copper Oktoberfest. Sturdy, puffy head. Malty smell with a little more amber toast than the color suggests. Taste is nicely malty, no phenol or smoke, but “crisp”. Hops provide some prickly bitterness with the bubble. I suspect a larger concentration of Noble hops than is normal, maybe even some Cascade. Sitting on the porch with this in our 91° September afternoon, and it is hitting just the right spots. This is the first time I’ve encountered SN’s Oktoberfest series, and I’m now sorry I missed the previous collaborations.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

Damn! Pours a yellow light golden color. Pretty good carbonation. Mostly clear. But that head is amazing. Pint glass wouldn’t hold it all, so I waited and the tight, thick white head just held on. When it finally did go down a bit, the second head was more thin and bubbly and just sort of floated on top of the other head. So this has two heads, I am stunned by this!

Aroma is doughy, light honey. Light lemon. Light grassy hops. Smells great.

Taste is lightly sweet. Honey and light lemon peel. Light malts. Light grass. Bread crust. Light pepper, or is it some sort of hops?

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Dry, crisp. Lightly spicy. Finishes clean.

Overall, this is excellent. I really like this one. I would buy it again, and would recommend it. In fact this one is so good, it should be a year ‘round offering.

Bottle. Deep gold body, thin off-white head. Grassy, biscuity nose with hints of light fruit. Strong biscuity, cerealy character, light sweetness, firm but moderate bitterness, and nothing heavy or syrupy. A nice well-balanced, relatively dry Oktoberfest sharply contrasting with many of the heavier American versions.

12 oz bottle into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip on 31st Dec 2017 during a long and hard New Years Eve tasting session with myself at my daughters in California. Amber/orange body, weak white crown. Malty start and finish to this O'fest beer, light bitterness towards the end of each sip, otherwise it's a semi-sweet brew with a lot more malts than hops in the kettle.

From bottle in dimpled mug. Pours clear, burnt orange with thin white head and malty/bready aroma with a bit of citrus as prelude to the taste: a bit of orange peel bitterness in the finish to balance the malt sweetness.

Bottle from Sprout's: Poured a golden copper hue with a fizzy big bubbled foam cap on top. Aroma is delicate malts that bring about caramel and a whiff of grain. The flavor is semi sweet with a kick of bitterness while a slight aftertaste of rye finishes it up. Certainly a balanced marzen with notable yeast flavoring and high alcohol content. High scores for the collaboration effort.

355ml bottle. Pours a biscuity gold with a white head. Aroma: biscuity malt, caramel, grass and mild citrus notes. Taste: biscuity malt, mild sweetness malt and caramel, mild honey flavours. Medium bodied. Mild sweetness followed by mildly bitter finish. Easy drinking. This was quite good.

Bottle. A: Brilliant burnished orange with a substantial white head. Light lacing. N: Peppercorn, toffee, pine, touch of brown sugar, straw, toasted biscuit, coriander and a touch of molasses. Hops are noble with floral and earthy contributions. Melon and a touch of sweetened apple. T: Sweet and bitter. There is a lot of bread here and plenty of warm toasty notes. M: Light body, very dry, crisp carbonation, no alcohol. O: Really nice Oktoberfest. A bitter bready beer that is easy to drink but has a strong hop bite.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2017 12 oz bottle from Kroger at home. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted grainy malts, bready, caramel, some herbal and spicy hops, good but nothing to get excited about.
