Tasting from October 2011.GBZ59 (1217) - BARCELONA (Catalonia), SPAIN - APR 13, 2012
Chilled and into a straightwall. A very sunny amber gold it produces, bright as bright, and highly effervescent. Snow-white, loose head of foam crowns it; sudsy and fading. Buttery, doughy nose, slightly candyish like Starburst™ fruit lollies. Some pale caramel and biscuity malt comes through as does a little ethanol spice. Quite sweet on the tip of the tongue, a good malt profile, some grit an husk showing. Candyish fruit of the aroma is lost on the palate, a positive I suppose. Firm body, not too big or cloying, light in carbonation. Very clean throughout; a rough dusty malt swallow dries it out. Finish is short, earthy, sandy, and well spiced. Low to no hop bitterness. Easy to drink as a Helles Bock should be but lacking in depth. Another along the lines of a strong Euro lager. Criticisms aside it is remarkably quaffable. Bottled. A dark golden beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops, over ripe fruits, and yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of bread, yeast, malt, over ripe fruits, and metal, leading to a dry finish. Not impressed.
