2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasty brew for the style. Quite reminescent of all those German Bocks I quaffed back in the day My only real complaint comes against the style itself. Pilsener Bocks simply don’t have the substance to carry the high alcohol content without it being objectionably noticeable. It always comes across as a spiked pilsener, which is simply not a good thing IMO. In spite of that complaint, this is a very good offering for the style, and a nice change of pace for one accustomed to strong IPAs.
Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Pours a dark Amber color with a frothy beige head. Caramel malt nose has earthy, herbal hoppy notes. Flavor follows the nose with tobacco and toffeeish notes. Notes of red berries and vanilla. Light peppery hop spiciness in finish. Different. chinchill (5377) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 14, 2015
12 oz "2011" bottle poured in a pint glass. [from notes].
Light clear amber with a small, short-lived off-white head.
A nice European style (tastes German to me) bock. Aroma is mediocre, however, in part due to to it subtlety. Hop-tinged malt/grain flavor with a nutty finish. Not great on its own, but a nice malt mix for your tongue and good with a meal. Should appeal to pilsner fans.
Nice mouthfeel with medium/light carbonation. alexsdad06 (11223) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2015
12 oz. bottle at home from notes. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have pale bready malts, honey, light caramel, floral and herbal hops especially on the nose, the flavor has some earthy hops as well, decent, but not something I see myself drinking often. eduardovl (1490) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 14, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 330ml bottle poured in a Leffe chalice.
A: Pours a beautiful yellow to orange golden color. A bit hazy. Forms a big white aired bubbled head when poured. Medium retention and some nice lacings left
S: Sweet malts. Grassy bit citrus hops. A bit skunky too
T: Simple beer. Sweet malts, yeasts and grassy hops. Quite neutral and smooth beer. Moderate bitter end
M: Light body. Some hop bite. Good carbonation. Mild bitter end
O: Very drinkable. Hoppy and skunky in overall. Good quality Sierra Nevada after all

"didn’t enjoy as much as the pale bock, but it was a well made beer. nice blance between the sweetish malt and earthy hops. smooth and easy drinking, just not terribly complicated. "

It has a golden orange amber body with good clarity. The aggressive pour made only an average size head that faded quickly leaving only a light wispy film covering. There was no real lacing to speak of. The aroma is some what sweet and bready with mild honey like notes as well as some pale grain and grassy/leafy hops. The aroma had spot on foreshadowing to the flavor. It tastes just like the aroma with a slight addition of some light acidity in the hops on the finish. It’s a medium bodied beer with a smooth lightly carbonated texture. Nekronos (4213) - Xalapa, MEXICO - JUN 7, 2014
Interesting and quite different form the last Sierra Nevada beers I have had. Nice and not so hoppy. VastActiv (7734) - Oulu/Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 18, 2014
