Sierra Nevada Hellraiser Chocolate Chili Imperial Stout

RATINGS: 67   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.75/5   SEASONAL: Special   EST. CALORIES: 294   ABV: 9.8%
This massive Imperial Stout is infused with cocoa and dried chilies. Rich and complex aromas, heavy with roasted grains, mask the layers of flavor within. Notes of bittersweet chocolate, mocha, and a mild smokiness give way to a tingling and complex finish from the influence of the peppers.

sweet chili chocolate nose. Slightly chocolate body with mildly chilies . Malty. Not too hoppy. Chocolate driven. I liked it but chillies could have been hotter.

Sierra Nevada missed the mark a bit. Yeah it is a stout and yeah it has a decant chocolate presence but no chili heat at all.

Poured a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of dark chocolate and earthy hops. Flavor similar, got amount of heat but not really any pepper flavor, and hops that shouldn’t be there.

TaP at Noel Sexy Good Times Pub .. brown anger .. foam is decent .. mild chilli in the throat, cooking chocolate bits and bark .. mouth is mild .. finish is saucy, not a bad quick glass .. . .

It’s been ages since I had a good boiled potato.

Tap at Happy Gnome. Black with minimal head. Chocolate syrup, alcohol, milk and faint chilies. Mild sweetness, followed by a long earthy dry finish with only slightest hint of spiciness. Heavier body with an oily feel.

On tap at Triangle Wine (Morrisville). Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is faint chocolate with a chili pepper backing. Taste is about the same; chocolate up front with a lasting pepper finish on the back end. Body is creamy, slightly heavy. A nice stout from Sierra Nevada.

Deep brown, almost black color, pouring with a bice , thick head. The aroma is mild chicolate. The flavor is spicy, peppery roasted chilli mostly. I like it. Very smooth palate. Sticky, dirty, thin lace.

On tap at El Bait Shop. Black in appearance with a light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, light vanilla, light oak and a hint of peppery spice. Similar flavor, moderate malt sweetness with a hint of chili pepper spice at the finish. Nice.
