A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous new-school and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2012 2012 edition, 12 ounce bottle, pint glass. Pours with a typical dark golden to an amber hue. Most noticeable trait is the incredibly fresh and clean hop aroma. Initial warmth on the tongue upon tasting which is soon replaced by a smooth clean and incredibly fresh bitterness which is provided by the whole cone hopping process. Finishes with a sweetness that presents itself along with the finish. Overall, having tried many quality IPAs (Ruination, 90 Minute, etc.) I would place this near to the top of the list of IPAs that I have had the pleasure of trying, a quality beer and a fantastic experience. Honestly cant wait to get my next 4-pack.

2012 batch bottled in late March 2012. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into an oversized wine glass. Aroma of sticky, piney hops. Pours a very pretty orangeish, reddish color with a pretty white head that dissipates into nothing, leaving no lacing... and thats where things go South quickly. Mouthfeel is waaaaay too carbonated. Like drinking liquid fizz. Taste is, well, lets just say that now I know what Ralph Wiggum meant when he said "It tastes like burning!" Hoptimum tastes like someone squeezed a bunch of hops, put it into overcabonated seltzer, and dumped in a shot of isopropyl alcohol. Drain pour. I dont understand the high ratings. Maybe it was better fresh... probably not.

Pours a clear orange color with faint head. Aroma is full of sweet peaches / citrus hops. Very smooth in the mouth with little alcohol present. Good stuff!

12 oz bottle. Pours a beautiful copper body, clear, with a lovely one finger frothy off-white head. The nose is incredibly intense with big grapefruit fresh hops and an underlying slightly sweet caramel malt base. The flavor just punches you right up front with big bitter citrusy hops that taste incredibly fresh. There is a hefty caramel malt backbone to it, but it still plays second fiddle to the big hops. Long lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel is full and chewy with a sticky resinous finish. Fizzy and prickly carbonation. Another great winner from SN.

This is just about everything I want an IPA to be. Smooth yet bitter, aroma of pine... simply delicious.

If you are a "hop-head" this beer is for you! Even if you arent, this beer deserves a try. Very nice aroma, in the correct glass (I had a goblet that trapped the essence very well). Crisp flavor with a great bitter hoppy bite at the end. This is a beer to be enjoyed not to be drunk! As a resident of Delaware and a devotee of Dogfish Head, Id put this beer up against anything Sam and the gang have put out there! Easily one of the best IPAs Ive ever tasted. Well Done.

Light, bright amber, thin film of oily, off-white head. Aroma is of tons of sharp citrus and sap. lemon peel. Pine. Yum. Body is medium-to-medium-light. Flavor is driven by the hops, resinous, slightly spicy and sappy. Huge and refreshing. Not overly-bitter or astringent. Nor is there too much caramel showing through; this is definitely and IPA, designed to showcase hops. Very good. Not my all-time favorite hop flavor (I like the orange-citrusy/floral hops more than the tacky-sap IPAs).

Arayaga2 (2169) - portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 12, 2012
Clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma is tropical fruit candy and grapefruit. Taste is pure hop resin and malt syrup. It s alcoholic and medicinal, but in a very good way with popping notes of various citrus fruits. $2.5/12oz
