A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous new-school and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

(35 cl bottle from Systembolaget; 2016 vintage; Pkgd: 05/19/16 0836) Poured at fridge temperature into a footed Mikkeller & Friends glass reveals a clear amber body with one finger of white head. Good retention and beautiful lace. Hopforward aroma with notes of resin, spruce and booze. Oily texture, medium carbonation, medium body and a warming, lingering bitter finish. Flavour is aromatic, bitter with a little counterbalancing sweetness from the malt backbone. The booze seems noticeable underneath though.

10.4% ABV? Ill BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR! Unfortunately this cost more. What a tragedy, particularly in these economically stressed times when a 30 pack of Hamms Special Light can be had for under $12! Think about it! Overall I would say meh or bah, or not. Roll with the Blatz, or Hamms and I daresay your liver AND wallet will thank me in the morning....

Bottle from AEON liquors in Asagaya. Pours a clear copper with a finger of beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Honey, booze and earthy resinous hops in the nose. Bitter on the palate with toasted caramel, bread and a lingering resinous bitterness. Slightly warming finish as well.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a hazy copper-amber color with a very large, foamy, off-white head with long retention, and very good cling and lacing. Its aroma featured a strong blend of hops notes, featuring pine above all, and a mixture of grain, resin, floral, and some lighter fruity notes. It had an aggressively-hopped taste with a strong bitter pine effect, along with some floral and grainy notes, and a very light sour effect, with a modest presence of alcohol. The beer had a thick and full mouthfeel with a somewhat lively body with good carbonation and a dry finish. Intense, but good and flavorful.
