COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous new-school and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

I cannot find a fault with this beer. Perfection in hop heaven. Goes good with watching golf tournaments and couch lock activities. Brilliance. Please note... how many raters of this beer refer to the "resin". Possibly pairs well with other resinous matter... food for thought.

bottle - Pours clear copper with a large off-white head that laces well. It has a big citrus and resin hop aroma. The flavor is intensely bitter with grapefruit and resin notes fueling this medium to full bodied brew and leading into a long, bitter, enjoyable finish.

Got a lot of resin. Enjoyed the beer. Tasted like a resiny stronger Sierra pale ale. A lot of alcohol. 4 pack from Mesa liquor ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is amazing it has a sweet piny scent with some hints of grapefruit. Pours a nice dark amber with loads of off white creamy head and lots of carbonation. Taste is a very strong piny sapp flavor with a lot of alcohol leaves a super bitter taste in the mouth. I do get some sort of floral hops in the end too with some oiliness. Not my favorite. I think I will stick to the torpedo when I want a good ipa from Sierra Nevada.

Bottle. Bottled: 03/30/12. An amber pour with a smallish beige head. A well-balanced aroma that features plenty of grapefruits, citrus rinds, resiny pine, caramel, and some biscuity maltiness. Goes down medium to full-bodied and slightly sticky. Caramel and a doughy breadiness start things off taste-wise. Lots of grapefruits and drying citrus rinds at the end. A drying finish that lingers quite a bit. Resiny and fairly harsh. Some warming alcohol is present throughout, though this doesnt seem nearly as big as the 10.4% ABV would suggest.

355ml bottle. Does it get any better than this, I think not. Big dense head of foam sitting atop a honeycomb amber base. The aromas assault your nose the second the cap comes off. In the mouth this beer is smooth and leaves a resinous coating. Top marks for a great beer.

Location: Draft at Iron Monkey, 6/28/12

Aroma: It has lots of fresh pine/resin, a good amount of citrus, and some light caramel and crystal malts
Appearance: Pours a clear copper color with a couple inches of white head and some sticky lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, some decent sweet and bitterness from pine and citrus hops
Palate: It is somewhat sticky and chewy on the mouth, with a medium-plus body, and a lingering dryness
Overall Impression: I found this one to be a nice pine/resin forward example of the style. I like the idea here, the whole cone IIPA. It worked well. The alcohol is very well hidden, I had no idea it was 10.4% until I just started logging it here. Another nice one from Sierra Nevada, but Id expect nothing less.

Just on cool and into a snifter. Oily looking, radiant orange amber with just a few lonely bubbles rising to atmosphere. Little head retention shown but granted by the high hopping. Clean bright hops on the nose; spicy, herbaceous, predominately piney and interfilled with inklings of fresh baked cookies, golden syrup and toffee, sawdust and peat, stonefruit, honeydew and grapefruit, all coming across in declining order. Oily in feel, not huge in body but there is plenty of presence shown. There is a reserved sugary sweetness, burnt toast and toffee, toasted grains, light buttery note before all hops and pinewood in back. A rather harsh and drawing, herbal battering of the tonsils sees the alcohol weighted - though there is a warmth and an almost fusel higher alcohol at play. There is supple fruit to linger and into the long hop bomb of a swallow. Lychee, grapefruit, apricot, peach; the spritzy carbonation is lingering with the fruit esters. Good malt balance to the heady hopping. Not as extreme as I was dreading. A nice DIIPA! (12fl.Oz, No.209010556, Liquor Barons, Ocean Reef)

tangerine color, fully hoppy aroma citrus mostlysome earthiness, simcoe hops smell so gooooood. Not as heavy as I thought, medium mouthfeel. Very well balanced, some alchohol warmth at the end. Bittering is consistent throughtout, you get the malty tatstes in the middle. Very good, I would pair with grecian grilled lamb chops and some pungent feta cheese.

Pours clear orange with a large white head. Smell hints of citrus and flowers. Taste is very bitter with some grapefruit kick. Medium-to-full bodied with a slick texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Sierra Nevada Hoptimum finishes with a lot of bitterness.
