Opaque black with a reddish brown fringe and a very ample and durable frothy tan head.
A fine hoppy aroma with an unusual evergreen sappy note I assume is juniper. Fairly strong aroma. Alcohol evident after warming.
T - plenty of hop flavor as well as medium and dark roasted malts. A bit herbal and earthy. An odd bitter finish with notes of coffee, reflecting the mix of hops, juniper and, perhaps malts. Rather strong flavor which, with the evergreen component, approaches the challenging level.
M - medium body with good carbonation but a small bite in the semi-dry finish.

Sweet juniper flavor with some roasty and chocolate flavor and a dry bitter hop finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

(Backlog) Dark in color brown to black with ruby tinges. Tannish head. Roast come first in the aroma, then come some coffee and pine. Sort stout like in the whiff. The taste is where the pine, juniper, touch of fruit and herbs, grass hop like comes out. Slight malt

A: Pours black (duh) with a thick three finger cream head. This falls over several minutes to a quilt of the same. Cobweb lacing. Where light penetrates, beer is a ruddy red.
S: Smells like an ABA with a bit of smoke. Plenty of roasty malts, citrus and resin hops. A good bit of smoke here, like peat smoke. The juniper is subdued and not very evident here. Nonetheless, I like the nose here.
T: There’s the juniper. Piny juniper comes through and plays well with the roasty toasty malts. The hops are less punchy than anticipated and more of a third wheel to the malts and juniper. Some of the malts are soily and bitter. Good stuff here.
M: medium bodied with lower than expected (based on appearance) carb. Slick finish.
O: Good beer. Wish this was a seasonal rather than a one timer.

Bottle from BevMo: Poured a dark brown that was almost black and was topped with a thin layer of head. As for the aroma, my nose is able to pick up on a moderate usage of blackened malts as well as some thick coffee creamer too. The flavor is roasty and tastes as if the malts might have been slightly smoked, but I get the idea that the malts suppress any juniper berry flavors.
