COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hitachino Nests most popular beer is their White Ale, so it was a natural starting point for this collaboration. We opted to add hops (as we are known to do) and made a white IPA based on the flavor profile of the White Beer. Kiuchi suggested incorporating the use of yuzu (a small Asian citrus fruit) into the brew, and we found the bright lime-like tartness perfectly accentuated the flavors of hops and the spicy notes of the classic witbier yeast.

Bottle from the 12 pack. From notes backlog.

A: Semi-clear gold with a white head.

N: Pine, yuzu, rye, peppercorn, straw, fields, hay, some grapefruit, coriander, and flowers.

T: Very spicy, bitter, and lightly sweet.

M: Medium-light body with some resins, creamy carbonation, no alcohol.

O: Solid White IPA. Not overly complex, but the yuzu comes through well and mixes in to the proceedings.

12oz bottle from the box set. Pours clear bright gold with a persistent creamy white head. Juicy tangerine and fresh peach flavors with light bready malt, floral hops with hints of sweetness. Low carbonation and a clean, fruity finish. The hops presence is mild vs what one might expect from an IPA, but overall it works, nicely balanced with the fruity sweetness.

Bottle. Pours a clear light yellow body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is sweet with a really interesting fruitiness to it. It really works with the hop bill well. The flavor is equally interesting, can’t say that I know what a yuzu tastes like, but they must be delicious. It’s tropical and slightly sweet with a little citrusy kick on the back end from the hops. Just the slightest wheat taste makes it past the fruit. Light bodied and fizzy with prickly carbonation. Very nice beer, one of the most interesting of all the beer camp series.

Far from being hazy, pours almost brilliant clear golden with lasting foamy white head. Aroma: fruity esters, with citrus (grapefruit, orange), stone fruit (apricot) notes. Also banana-like notes, some phenols with clove like note...flavor follows aroma: bread like malt backbone, some flavor of corriander, spices. Hop bitterness is medium. Slightly dry bitter finish with slighty tart-dry mouthfeel of yuzu. Light to Medium bodied, smooth texture, medium carbonation. Refreshing.

Clear pale gold with an inch of fluffy white head. Aroma of yuzu, lemon, wheat crackers. Nice but plain. 7- Very sweet with loads of citrus, some slight herbal and peppery notes. No snap to the end makes it dull. And how is it 7% ABV?

Crisp golden coloured body with a thinnish pure white head, only a centimetre tall that dies down immediately. Aroma of very crisp lemons, wheat, yeast, citrus and quite pungent/bitter hop notes of cleanser and flowers/jasmine/tea. Light to Medium-bodied; Sharp hop flavour up front that continues in the grassy/perfumey/floral bite with a nice bitterness along with a big dose of wheat and smooth grain in the immediate flavour afterwards. Aftertaste shows a nice smooth and lightly bitter flavour that dominates with citrus, light fruits, some grasses and dry hay notes and ends with a little sweetness. Overall, a nice dry and grassy beer with a good amount of citrus, hops and complexity throughout to make this a more herbal/grassy IPA with a good deal of wheat and very smooth characteristics. Nicely done and well worth trying to find, even if it is just this single bottle from the pack. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle as part of the full twelve pack, purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 12-August-2017 for US$25,99/twelve pack, sampled at home in Washington on 07-October-2017.
