"A pleasant and surprisingly quaffable big beer from SN. Very light in the chili department, heavy on the wood, well done on the bourbon. I’d guess this is a 50 50 blend, and the chocolate/coca comes out very nicely, especially in the flavor." boozedude (2229) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - SEP 27, 2013

On tap @ O’Brien’s: Poured a dark brown almost black liquid with almost no formation of head except for tiny O-ringed shape. Aroma smells strange and smells like rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, however, there is an obvious smell of wood. Drink is funkier than the aroma with a confusing taste of chocolate and slightly smoked ancho or poblano chili pepper flavor comes through. The dark malts add a unique sweetness to this stout that almost gives it an artificial fruity flavor while still not straying to far away from Sierra Nevada’s original stout recipe. On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of oak, roastiness, bitter chocolate and light bourbon. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of oak, vanilla, bitter chocolate, tobacco and light bourbon with a smooth dry lingering oak finish. marcus (10757) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 11, 2012

Draft at Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia, PA.
Pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger mocha head that slowly settles into a lasting cap. Streaks and spots of lace left behind.
Sweet, slightly spicy aroma with a really nice barrel presence that smells like it’s nicely integrated into the base beer. Hits of toasted oak, vanilla, marshmallow and a decent amount of spicy bourbon that doesn’t overpower the malt notes. I can still pick up some chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast and a very faint chili presence.
Medium bodied and very similar to the aroma with a well integrated bourbon barrel character. Dry toasted oak and vanilla flavor with smooth, spicy bourbon that’s countered by sweet and roasted malt notes. Hints of chocolate, coffee bean, oatmeal and roast. Really well balanced and even though there is plenty of bourbon flavor, the ABV is excellently masked with no heat whatsoever. Very good.

Appearance was clear deep brown with creamy lasting tannish 1/2 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet malts, date, raisin, fig, deep friuts, woody bourbon and brown sugar with spices. Taste was deep fruits of cherry, date, fig, then the beautiful cask oak bourbon with slight alcoholic complex end. Palate was silky smooth soft CO2 with full body, then the long sherry bourbon oaky finish. A beauty of complex flavours, will age wonderfully, [email protected]

Black with no head. Aroma is oaken malts with just a bit of floral hops. Medium/full body with a nice roasted flavor. Some wood and vanilla notes. Finish is dry. Tasty beer.
