COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Poured from 750 ml corked bottle. Pours a deep dark blackness. The aroma hits you with heavenly molasses and coffee. The mouthfeel is rich and satisfying, not too thick. Flavor is big and rocks your taste buds with roasty malt, brown sugar, and molasses and coffee. The party goes on and on gradually subsiding wth echos of that molasses that just won’t quit. Smooth and satisfying. Nice warmth of alcohol throughout the experience.

Bottle. Assuming 2016 found it dusty at a liquor store. The aroma is big chocolate vanilla and bourbon. The palate is a big light wishing it was creamier and thicker. Only complaint. The taste big chocolate malt. Nice vnallia and toffee undertones. Nice bourbon sweet bite. Not too much of a bite but a nice one overall very great beer

Aroma’s good with traditional Imperial Stout characteristics and strong bourbon. Flavors where this stuff really shines there’s where the bourbon is toned down and blends nicely with vanilla cocoa a bit of coffee dark malt roast and the strength is there but not overdone. I bet this stuff would be just incredible cellared for some time.

Such a massive, delicious stout. Pours an infinite black with a healthy tan head, and the aroma practically shoves a Hershey bar up your nose. Starts surprisingly bitter, yet quickly grows a deep, smooth mocha core tinged with anise and smoke, then develops a dark choco-cherry undertone dripping with bourbon heat. Gains an oaken vanilla dryness on the finish, and the fade is bitter chocolate bliss. Damn fine beer.

Barrel aged Narwhal 12.7% 1300¥ for 300ml at Bakujun - pricey for sure but hey it's nice to see it in Jaoan at all.

Inky black with a huge tan head of foam. The bouquet is whiskey, oat and umami. Full bodied and velvety smooth. This has a huge barrel character, very oaky, whiskey and chocolate. It paired deliciously with Belgian chocolates. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This was at the Ingomar Club in Eureka, CA. Pours into a Chmay glass dark black with a big tan head. Nose is bourbon, wood and chocolate. Full body. Thick creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is really rich with a lot of chocolate and bourbon, and some dark fruit. There is also vanilla and a touch of coconut. Finishes with a lot of bourbon and wood. Really delicious. Great beer.
