COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

2014 - it’s a bit hot honestly. Very rich and smooth in the mouth with a heap of honey and wood to it.

Sample during the "Bob’s Private Bottle Share" on 11/21/2016. Opaque black color with a medium thick khaki head that diminishes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon and coffee. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, roast malt and coffee. The finish is oaky and roasty with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Pours pitch black with a tan head. Nose is full of bourbon and chocolate with massive boozy notes. Taste is upfront bourbon and oak notes melding into a chocolate finish with a bit of booze warmth. Hides abv well and is a nice balanced drop.

Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of bourbon, chocolate and a hint of coffee. The taste was similar to the aroma with more bourbon, chocolate, coffee, marshmallow and oak. Wow, really tasty.

Bottle 0.75l: pours black, oily, with brown foamy head, which immediately transforms itself to a ring arond the glass, but this ring also dissapeared in a few seconds. Aroma: rich malt and roadted barley notes, with notes of toasted, toffee, espresso coffee, bitter dark choco, cocoa, molasses, some esters of dark fruits, gentle note of vanilla, bourbon, which steps forward in second half. Flavor is very similar to aroma, with intense notes of malts and roasted barley, some fruity esters, vanilla, bourbon, which gentle booziness is notoceable before finish. Finish is bitter (hops and roadted barley), dry, slightly sticky. Body is thick, texture soft, carbonation is soft. Very drinkable, but at the same time somehow onedimensional in comparison with some other world-class bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts.

ABUSEDGOAT (2847) - California, USA - NOV 26, 2016
Black pour, tan head, decent lace/retention. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, light roast, light coffee, caramel, darker fruit. Full bodied, creamy, vanilla flavors from the barrel as well as chocolate dominate. Alcohol hidden well, pretty straightforward but well balanced.

Smells strong of chocolate, barrel and alcohol, but pleasantly so. Very dark color, not all that much head. Velvety mouthful, with just a hint of alcohol.. Taste is strong of chocolate, oak, roast, coconut. It’s excellent.
