RafeAU (628) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 27, 2015
Bottle from Plonk. Pours perfect opaque thick black with tan head. Rich dark stout, chocolate aroma and coffee roastiness, medium sweet with excellent balance of bitterness, not cloying. Full mouthfeel, medium carbonation. superb without being overwhelming.

dysenteri (324) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - AUG 19, 2015
alcohol, dark chocolate, raisin. roasty malt pitch black appearance bitter, a bit too boozy still (2014 version).

It was very lively and poured jet black with a large tan head. Pungent on the nose, it had cocoa, brown sugar, roasted barley; all in all a lot of malt. Also in there was ripe cherries and a slight smokiness. Quite sweet and thick on the palate. There’s plenty of roast malt but also a heavy dose of dark chocolate. The hops do come through on the second gulp to lend some balancing bitterness but the treacle-like; almost honeyed dark fruit sweetness comes through strongest. Slight tobacco and leather undertones as well. The finish is syrupy sweet with a little creamy coffee underlay. Although initially promising, it proved too sweet overall for my palate. That and the alcohol that comes through about half way down means that it wouldn’t be my first choice off the beer shelf.

Pours thick black, tan head similar to a coffee crema. nice mouthfeel, thick flavour with, coffee, chocolate, dart fruit and vanilla. slight dry kick at the end. Great beer, i have a stash of the 2012 and 2013 brews, both great.

355ml bottle. Black color with beige head. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate and coffee, caramel, light dark fruits. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

From the tap at Beverage World, this pours beautifully dark with a nice light chocolate mousse coloured head that recedes to a persistent ring. This ale is well bodied, crisp but richly flavoured with aromas of cola, tart plum skin, and coffee followed by flavours of cocoa, dark dried fruit, and some creamy vanilla, with molasses, hints of brown sugar, and smokiness. The palate is smooth and full with with a nice body and a lingering dry finish. Excellent.

355 ml bottle vintage 2013, shared by Werckmeister, thanks a lot!<i/>
Black body, with a medium, creamy, coffee colored head.
Aroma of espresso, dark chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits, some alcohol.
Tastes of coffee, wood, dry cocoa, liquorice, subtle dark fruits, wood.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a soft to average carbonation.
Finishes dry, roasty, with coffee, liquorice, wood, cocoa.

Tasty. A traditional, very straight, dry Imperial Stout, with coffee and liquorice notes. Not as complex as others, but pleasant. Strong, while alcohol is well hidden.

355ml bottle at home shared with Saeglopur from trade with Nische, many thanks. Vintage 2013. black color, medium big coffee-colored head. smells of malty roast, lightly sour, some smoke, bitter chocolate, coffee, dried fruits, raisins, peat, a bit milky. very nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, full mouthfeel. tastes rather glueish, alcohol, ash, malty roast, a bit smoky, spices, coffee, bitter chocolate. finishes dry with ash and bitter chocolate. quite nice, very lovely smell, taste is a bit harsh though, with glueish notes, ash and light smoke notes. finish again is very good though. Overall I like it though.

355 ml. bottle obtained in a trade with tlahav. Thanks! Split by 2. Black, little mocha head. Nose is coffee, lightly vinous, coffee, liquorish, herbal, light red grape,… Taste is red grape, sour molasses, liquorish, herbal, bread, quite bitter, soy sauce, light coffee, touch red grape, a bit too vinous for me, tad sour coffee,… A tad lighter body. Not bad but I definitely expected more, above average for an USA stout of reputation.
