Belle surprise. Édition 2013 (948-291213) Shark_Pants (781) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 18, 2014
Pours opaque black with a nice coffee brown head that leaves great lacing. Smells of lots of espresso, molasses, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is initially lightly sweet - milk chocolate, coffee and a hint of vanilla , then the bitterness kicks in and transitions it to bitter dark chocolate, espresso and a dry finish. Full bodied. Very good but not up there with the very best RIS. rejtable (2888) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 15, 2014
Really nice. Pours very dark with a slight ruby tinge on the edges. Limited tan head and no lacing. Nose is raisin and roasted grain. Notes of raisin, earthy bitterness, espresso, some dark chocolate, roasted grain, and maybe a slight cherry in the background. Taste is heavy sweet and petty heavy bitter. Reasonably oily body with medium carbonation. Somewhat dry finish and a long lasting bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden. sonnycheeba (6539) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 14, 2014
Bottle. Pours opaque black with thick, creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts, prunes, light spice, earthy notes, light raisins, and faint vanilla. Flavor is dry roast malts forward with chocolate, ash, light earthy notes, and faint dark fruit esters; dry roast finish. Full body and low carbonation. Appearance: Black colour with a brown head.
Aroma: Roasted malt, dried fruit, raisin, alcohol.
Body: Medium body, low carbonation.
Flavour: Roasted malt, raisin, some chocolate, alcohol.
P: Super black body with a glisten of mahogany at the bottom of the glass. A dollop of creamy espresso froth that dwindles to a bubbly crown. Retention is nice and leaves thick micro bubble lacing that sloshes around the edge. The melted Dutch chocolate ice cream like head never seems to leave.
S: Rich roasty malts, bakers chocolate, burnt molasses, dark coffee beans, sawdust, sweet whisky mash, smoked grain and salted cashews.
T/M: Sweet burnt molasses, milk and bitter chocolate, charred grains, dirty wood, spicy booze with earthy and pine resin hops in the background. Coffee, black pepper, and sweet figs round out the multitude of malty layers. Full creamy but oily body with spicy carbonation.
O: A mystical adventure for your mouth. Super complex and ever changing this brew delivers amazing results. This is a beer of myth and legend that lives up to its magical name. Cheers! XaenDovet (1281) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 11, 2014
12oz bottle. Pours super dark brown with ruby highlights, and a thick tan cap. Aroma of milk chocolate, nuts, a touch of vanilla, molasses, wood, and smoke. Taste is quite sweet but chased with a strong bitterness. Super smooth and long dry finish. Jam095 (1) - - JAN 11, 2014 does not count
Pours pitch black with beautiful mocha head the fades quickly. Mild aroma, with a slight alcohol nose. Low carbonation. Well balanced flavor. Expected alcohol presence. Excellent stout! vickvega82 (40) - Maine, USA - JAN 11, 2014
Pours a thick dark black as youd exect, with a very foamy tan head. Smellslike a bottle of matt ant booze. But the tase is all smooth and cocoa. On the whole it’s a fairly clean Imperial Stout that’s actually kind of one dimensional in taste but none the less very good. I’d be very interested to taste it on Oak. Small single finger head. No carbonation. Very little lacing that disappears almost immediately. Black as used motor oil. Smells of alcohol, dark roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, and cocoa. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, burnt wood, and alcohol. Some alcohol burn on the roof of the mouth and back of the tongue. Good Stout, but not quite outstanding.
