This massive imperial stout is incredibly complex, rich, and intense and will develop in the bottle for years to come.

12 oz. 2017 bottle pours an opaque dark brown/black with small tan head and hardly any lacing. Aroma is not strong, but has lots of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, molasses, and smoke. Taste is sweet with some bitterness in the finish, which is not as boozy as I thought it would be. Body is full with slight carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. This one is deceptively easy to drink, A good Imperial Stout and one of the best brews I've had from this large brewery, but it's not one I'll remember until I see it on the shelves next year.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2017 12oz bottled 9/27/2017 10.2% ABV poured into pilsner glass. This is my second bottle of this beer and taste is same as I remember from previously. Poured black with sizable head if poured down the center of the glass, but the head dissipates quickly. The aroma is weak with sweet chocolate and roasted coffee on the nose. Out of the fridge this beer is bitter hops, but this bitterness dissipates and beer becomes creamier as it is allowed to warm. I do not notice alcohol on this beer which is an impressive feat for 10.2% ABV and should get even better with age.

Narwhal 2017, bottle. Imperial as it is, coffee, chocolate, several malts. Good, rich taste of roasted malt and some good hop profile, really easy drinking.

BOD 8/15/17. Pours black. Head volume is poor, but typical for an imperial stout without oats. Retention is outstanding while lacing is quite poor. Not quite outstanding nose that is rather laid back. Nothing smacks you in the face over the subtly sweet background aroma. Light notes of chocolate emerge as does light roast (without char) and a hint of vanilla. As it warms, molasses creeps in subtly. Full bodied with a nice rich smooth and creamy texture. Carbonation / body balance is world class with just the perfect amount of effervescence to open the flavors up and tickle the tongue, yet not disturb the creamy mouthfeel. The flavor profile is outstanding. Intensity is moderate and complexity adequate. Where this one shines is balance and keeping the alcohol hidden. Like the nose, chocolate is quite evident and the roast subdued. Dark semi-sweet bakers chocolate is the primary chocolate influence while the sweetness is provided with a rich wave of molasses. Bitterness is mild and there is a hint of char to add complexity. From the middle on, vanilla takes center stage over the molasses base. The finish is a slow fade of vanilla and molasses with just a hint of astringency.

Bottle. Black color, with brown and coffee foam. Aroma: roasted malts, espresso, chocolate cake with cognac, perfectly! Taste: complex, textured, malty, sweet, burnt, wine, prunes, bitter chocolate, old port wine. Very good.

Roasty malt with a good bit of cocoa and a bit of coffee. Smooth and full. Alcohol content is well masked.

Smoke, smoke, smoke. Sierra Nevada's finest beer that everyone should experience.

Bit of a Christmas pudding. Quite sweet, molasses, dried fruit, some Mighty imp liquorice ( though not overpowering) and chocolate cocoa powder. Very good but not best imperial stout

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2017 Smooth and creamy dark chocolate, molasses and mild coffee notes. Nice levels of hop and alcohol that balance very nicely. A great overall brew
