Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT - picked up about six months ago in NH. Pours thick, dark brown-black, somewhat oily with a large, deep beige head. The aroma gives off burnt malts, dark chocolate, hefty roasted malts. Medium to big sweet flavor with liquidy dark sugars, baking cocoa, bitter earth, burnt wood, some molasses, mild raisin and raspberry. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, lightly warming finish with bittersweet cocoa, general dark chocolate, dry chocolate cake, dirt, lightly torched wood. Pretty robust overall.

Bottle from Elizabeth Station, Bellingham, WA; vintage 2012
Pitch black color with generous, frothy brownish head. Intense aroma of roasted malt, with some firewood, lactose and light liquorice. Full bodied; the mouthfeel is a bit oily, but smooth; very good flavor of roasted malt, with some dark chocolate, roasted nuts, light Bitter digestive, and a bit too much liquorice; some leather too; it has a very strong bitterness, that hides the fair sweetness; the final is also a bit salty, providing alcohol warmth as well.
Bold and arrogant; well brewed, solid, but without nuances.

Taste comprises roast malts, chocolate, molasses, touch of soap, liqourice, leather, boozey kick. Full bodied with fine carbonation, sweet boozey finish. Decent enough Imperial Stout but no world beater.

harrisoni (19341) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2013
Bottle at Exmouth Arms Finsbury. Black beer lasting tan head. Lots of choc and coffee on aroma. Cld be fuller in the mouth. Alcohol warmth on finish. Decent. I mean its like Sierra Nevada straight down the line solid but lacks character and the choc tends towards the dry papery variety. Good choc aroma fades in mouth

mcberko (18981) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 22, 2012
12 oz. bottle, pours jet black with a small light brown head. Aroma of dry cocoa powder, light roasted malt, and a mild lactic quality. Flavour brings out quite heavily roasted malt upfront, followed by sweetened chocolate malt and some noticeable hop presence combined with harsh roast on the finish. Fairly standard impie with a harsher than normal roast character. Easily drinkable and satisfying. Great stuff.
