355 ml. bottle obtained in a trade with tlahav. Thanks! Split by 2. Black, little mocha head. Nose is coffee, lightly vinous, coffee, liquorish, herbal, light red grape,… Taste is red grape, sour molasses, liquorish, herbal, bread, quite bitter, soy sauce, light coffee, touch red grape, a bit too vinous for me, tad sour coffee,… A tad lighter body. Not bad but I definitely expected more, above average for an USA stout of reputation.

Bottle at Darkness Day 2012. Very dark brown pour. Roasted malt and hop bite flavor. Chocolate and molasses. Nice brew.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2013 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pours black with a small, creamy, khaki head. The aroma offers notes of molasses, dark chocolate and Cuban-roast coffee. As full-bodied and plush as they come accompanied by tickling carbonation. The flavor is carbonic, acrid and singed, just like the Cuban-roast coffee that I love so dearly. Hearty charcoal finish. Much better than expected. The abv seems completely hidden. Since caffeine makes me nervous, maybe I should switch over to this when I’m jonesin’ for deeply roasted Cuban or Cuban-style coffee.World class effort from Sierra Nevada!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown to black with a medium sized dense tan head. The aroma has roasted malts, dark chocolate and some black coffee. The flavor is roasted malts, black coffee, dark chocolate with a hint of tobacco. At colder temps there was some alcohol, but that disappeared with warming. Overall, this was a fairly tasty and reasonably priced Imperial Stout.

Flöska. Pitch black with a medium light brown fine head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and sweet roasted caramel with dark fruits, chocolate and light smoke along with strong alcohol fumes. Good mouthfeel, well filling. Sweet very roasted malty and caramel chocolatey flavour with licorice, dark fruits, bit smoke and plenty of alcohol in the finish. Very nice brew but the alcohol is just too dominating for me.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines, cheers Ash! Pours jet black, thick brown head. Massive dark chocolate nose, creamy and inviting. Another big snort brings coffee, more rich chocolate. Taste is heavy and sweet, with some herbal hops and liquorice. Long dark chocolate sweet finish. Nice.

Squat bottle from Capone’s. Pours thick, jet black, with 1-finger dark brown head. Nose is awesome. Huge black patent barley malt and choc malts, cacao, blackstrap molasses, hops, honey. Tastes rich, complex, with flavors of big roasty choc malt, huge hop astringency, honey, espresso, and a thick muthfeel with well hidden -OH. Finishes very hoppy and astringent, with, I’d estimate, around 75-85 IBUS, and a huge roasty choc malt load, plus cacao, mild honey, and molasses. This one is huge, and makes an impact.

2013-10-09. Black body with a nice brown head. 4+ Aroma has good amount of green hops over a rich dark malt base. Mild alcohol and cocoa like roast. 7++ Flavour is similar, rich sweet dark malt base has a good dose of green hops and a fair bit of hoppy bitterness. Moderate roast character, and cocoa highlights. Alcohol is not overly present in the flavour but leaves the inside of your mouth tingly from the alcohol. 7++ Smooth medium to full bodied palate is pleasantly carbonated. Bottle is a bit old but drinks like it is very fresh, with a lot of hop presence. Bottle, 2012 Vintage, from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo

Rich black pour with a wee foamy khaki hued head. Nice rich nose of sweet dark chocolate and a touch of roasted malt and a bit of coffee. Big powerful flavor of semisweet rich dark chocolate, roasted black malt, coffee, burnt caramel, rich dark malty black sweet tones and a semibitter coffee finish. Nice.
