Definitely hoppy on the aroma.
VERY hoppy in the taste to start, roasted coffee and malt in the aftertaste. Alcohol well hidden, but there is something that tells me this is a strong beer. I think it's the strong, strong aroma of hops. Also the strong hoppy taste, which is actually sensational. Baker's cocoa lastingly present; feels like I've had a spoon of cocoa on my tongue. Smooth beer. Not too much carbonation. Thin dark tan head that has disappeared quickly. Minimal lacing.
Went super with a thick, creamy Belgian chocolate mousse.

Smoke, smoke, smoke. Sierra Nevada's finest beer that everyone should experience. doriangrey (74) - Diamond Creek, AUSTRALIA - OCT 18, 2017
Bit of a Christmas pudding. Quite sweet, molasses, dried fruit, some Mighty imp liquorice ( though not overpowering) and chocolate cocoa powder. Very good but not best imperial stout chipvp (1) - - OCT 16, 2017 does not count
UPDATED: OCT 16, 2017 Smooth and creamy dark chocolate, molasses and mild coffee notes. Nice levels of hop and alcohol that balance very nicely. A great overall brew Lowe1983 (1621) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - SEP 29, 2017
Pours a black color with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet with molasses and chocolate. Also had some roasted malts and slight warming. Flavor is the same with more of the alcohol warming. jmohno (1652) - Iowa, USA - SEP 24, 2017
Black. Cherry tobacco, mineral, mild cocoa, mild roast, sweet caramel, herbal. Same taste, on the sweet side, syrupy some, some hot heat. Not as good 2017.

Nice stout. Aroma is not very interesting. Just a nice stout beer aroma. Taste however is smooth and chocolatey.

12oz brown bottle. 2016 release. Black pour with a nice low sitting tight bubbled brown head and moderate lacing. Nose has roast and chocolate malt, brown sugar. Taste is rich dark chocolate and cocoa with brown sugar, caramel. Finishes with dark chocolate, burnt malts and a hint of alcohol and some late bitterness. Actually very smooth for an over 10%, impy. Nice full mouth feel. Very well done. thedm (6309) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - SEP 17, 2017
This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind an opaque black brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The weak aroma was malty. The mouthfeel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong roasted malt aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of roasted malt sweet brown malt and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. Fisler (654) - Bamberg, GERMANY - SEP 17, 2017
2016er Edition - fließt ins Glas wie Motoröl. In der Nase röstig, Zartbitter-Schokolade. Im Trunk unfassbar cremig, sehr schokoladig, süß, mittig holzig, rauchig, Röstmalz, hinten bitterer, verbrannt, aber lecker. Wahnsinnig geile Komposition, großartige Drinkability, absolutes Spitzenbier! ttutony (929) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 2, 2017
Jet black with a tan head. Potent roasted malt with chocolate and coffee notes. Bitter hops. Great beer.
