Taps rich coffee sable with a fairly thick tan head. Aroma offers roast malt, rum, woody and chocolate tones. Flavor delivers rich roast malt, mocha, rum, woody and hoppy tones for a narwhal of a brewski. Full body has fizz to spare. Dive into one! Capa (3706) - DC, Washington DC, USA - DEC 3, 2016
Black with a tan head. Medium full body. Roasted malts, raisin, chocolate, burnt brown sugar, toast, slight rum notes. Sweet notes throughout. A really amazing version of the already great Narwhal. Rum > whiskey. hayduke (5742) - Eureka, California, USA - AUG 28, 2017
This was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours jet black with a big foamy tan head. Nose of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, and rum. Full body. Smooth mouthfeel which is amazing considering the high ABV. Flavor shows chocolate, dark ripe fruit, vanilla, coffee, and light citrus. The finish brings coconut, and wood. Finishes with chocolate. Alcohol appears in my neck but not the taste. This is amazingly easy to drink and complex. A really great beer. bhensonb (16110) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 16, 2015
Tap at Torpedo Room. Last of the keg! Pours hazy dark brown with a tan smear. Aroma is rum and dark treacle. Very full bodied. Flavor is rum, heat, dark treacle, wood, earth chocolate.Finishes undry, but it doesn’t matter. Really delicious. Like rum! Strykzone (7848) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - AUG 28, 2017
Corked and caged bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. A black beer that has just a little tan foam. Rum jumps out in the aroma during the pour. The flavor also has some fairly big rum but it is well balanced on several legs. Chocolate is rich and sweet, vanilla, earth, dark malts, and some alcohol. A hint of floral hop notes and tobacco. Then cinnamon and coconut. This beer is so very filling and it feels like I have eaten a large meal after drinking a bottle. This is very good. I love the complexity and the balance of it.

tap at Sierra Tap House Reno. Narwhals typical black pour. Slightly oily texture. Smooth, and somewhere between warming and hot. Sweet, but not too sticky. The rum is nice, though I prefer the bourbon barrel aged. solidfunk (9789) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - SEP 22, 2016
Rum is light and nicely infused here. Some roast and chocolate. A little booze in finish. Caramel. Pours black with good head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Tap at Snally. joeneugs (6372) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 15, 2015
On draft at the Torpedo Room. It pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma is strong with rum and a little barrel. The flavor is rich with chocolate, rum and nutty/spicy barrel wood notes. Warming but not hot. Good roasted malt and barrel in the finish. Tasty. GenDV138 (7960) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - SEP 19, 2016
6 oz pour on draft at Snallygaster 2016. Black with light tan head. Aromas of rum, chocolate, oak. Tastes of rum, oak, chocolate, licorice. Full body with a dry finish. ABUSEDGOAT (2930) - California, USA - NOV 28, 2016
Black pour, tan head, solid lace/retention. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, barrel, alcohol, caramel, lesser notes of darker fruit and soy. Full bodied, sweet, creamy, quite drinkable. Really similar to the bourbon barrel version.
