"this was the "coolest" of the new/rare SN beers, if not the best. started out great, with a sour punch in the nose and flavor with only a hint of the saison (a great brew) that it once was. the finish was completely different...all wine-like grapes and more sweet than sour. Soooo cool. But then, after the first sip, the amazing complexity faded. We had another glass to be sure :) but the initial punch was never there again. On tap at Churchkey. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a golden-amber with a thin white head, fading down to a collar. The nose has some red-wine character along with straw and mild earthiness. Touch of pepper. Flavor has some wine along with underlying light malt and faint earthiness. Bit of spice. Light-medium body with good carbonation. Tap at CK. Low haze, dirty orange pour. No head formation. Ring of bubbles along the edge of the glass. Nose is sweet golden raisins. Taste is tangy, fruit juicy, spicy, mild bourbon, small tomato. Sweet overall. Very little Syrah character. Base saison needs work.

Tasted at the 6th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/12/2011. This wild ale pours a light gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, spicy and woody. A medium to light bodied wild ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and spicy. Good carbonation. Nice oak flavors, hints of the Petit Syrah are present, but mainly in the background. The beer still has that saison like quality to it, but there is definitely the barrel age and grape thing going on here as well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. On tap at burger. in Santa Cruz. Pours an unclear pumpkin orange with a lasting off-white head. Dried apricot and apple in the nose with some perfumey alcohol. Nondescript yeasty flavor; a little malty, a little bitter, a little winey. Not really identifiable as a saison, much closer to a tripel. Flabby and sorta sweet. Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Poured a near clear amber gold with a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had a nice note of syrah that matches with the saison yeast, floral, and sweet grains. Flavor had a nice combination of syrah and floral notes with underlying dark fruits and a bit of dryness in the finish.
