Dark mahogany brown with reddish hues topped with a good sized light tan head that stays for the show. Nose is rich toffee, yeast esters, banana chews, light spice, dark berry fruit, plummy tones.
Taste comprises bitter dark fruits, sweet tones, light booze, more plummy tones, leather armchair, tobacco, spice, dark berry fruits.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly warming alcohol in the close.
Decent quad, the plums are well evident and along with the alcohol are well integrated, doesn’t get too hot. mcberko (17178) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 21, 2013
375mL bottle, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, plums and toffee - very well-balanced. Flavour is extremely well-crafted, with notes of plums, toffee, and brown sugar. Low-to-medium sweetness for the style. The plums offer a wonderful element without overtaking. Somehow this is way more elegant than the regular Ovila Quad. Really lovely. yngwie (17038) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUN 20, 2015
On tap at Church Key, DC. A more or less clear one, dark auburn in color and with a small beige head. The aroma is on the malty side, with lots of dried fruits, some blue plums, a touch of alcohol, brown sugar and some dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied, warming and very soft on the palate, with lots of dried fruit. Blue plums, some chocolate and alcohol and a decent bitterness dealing with the sweetness. Lasting finish. Quite awesome this one.150620

Mahogany pour with minimal carbonation or head. Nose is sweet caramel, brown sugar, and plums. Very jammy, a hint of spice, vanilla, chocolate, and alcohol. Very light roasted malt. The flavor has an excellent plum character, plenty of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Light roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and mild spices. A hint of alcohol on the finish. Essentially flat. A little carbonation would have been nice. bhensonb (15093) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Tap at the brewpub. Pours very dark brown/black in the wide Ovila goblet. Sort of garnet when viewed through the edges. Beige head. Aroma seems fruity. Med + body. Flavor is plummy and malty. Initial flavor has a strong aspect - almost pepper/spice. Heat is noticeable and contributes to the strong flavor. Seems to develop chocolate notes. Finishes nearly dry, fruity and not very bitter. Excellent. Got 4 bottles in the shop! Ferris (15013) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 4, 2014
