Phone rate. Tap at Monkey Paw. Clear garnet with a two finger creamy light mocha head, very good retention. Big chocolate and fig nose, a bit of toffee and caramel behind, only a bit of roast. Flavor is much the same with some (English) yeast, a tinge of soy. Some light alcohol noted towards the semi-dry finish, which was roasty, bitterness peaking at a 3. Full body with light prickly carbonation. Pretty good--more chocolatey than I expected from an old ale. dwyerpg (6187) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAY 4, 2011
A sweet creamy aroma, sugary. Hmm... it’s hared to get a good opinion on this one. Basically, this is a really tasty beer that’s not real aggressive or defined in any particular aspect. Smooth, gotta be careful, could sneak up on you. Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - APR 22, 2011
Sampled at cah downtown festival. Very dark brown pour. Almost like a porter and a barlywine mix. Fruity and dark and roasty and chocolate and sticky. Good stuff. Sweet and dark. But again more porterish than old ale. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - APR 12, 2011
Draft @ Rattle ’N’ Hum SN event. Dark pour with brown head. Dark and sweet malts, dark fruit, dark sugars. Flavors are sweet and have a bit of oxidation which actually works with this style. Touch of warming on the finish.
