12 oz bottle from Spirits The Spot. Poured a clear orangey brown body iwth lotes of clinging carbonation and a large foamy off whtie head. Aroma started off with a blast of spicey rye notes and citrus and then some wet bread and dustiness settles in. Nice average body with a chewy bite and stronger carbonation with a slight touch of bitterness on the end. Flavor of rye, chocolate malts, older orange meat, old bread. After reading all the praise for this beer I was hoping for more. Good beer but not great.

1/18/12. 12oz bottle. Clear amber pour with a big khaki head that lasts forever and leaves big, webby lacing. A solid dose of hops in the aroma - fruity and citrusy - with caramel and spritzy club soda. Bold fruity hop flavor as well with citrus, hop bitterness, caramel, and a bigger hit of the spicy, bready rye. Tasty!

Upon pouring this beer it left a fingers worth of a off white head and had reasonably good lacing. The color of this beer was perplexing, from different angles it had very different and unique colors. From table level it looked mahogany, from over top it looked slightly red and from an angle it looked more amber in color. Well, whatever color is was it had a beautiful aroma to it. Strong peppery notes mixed very well with sweet citrusy hop notes. From the first sip you can tell youre drinking a rye beer; the spiciness of the rye added a big kick to the malt and worked very well with this beers hop imparted bitterness. This beer finished very clean and dry on the palate, which left you wanting more.

Pours clear copper with a large, fluffy white head. Smells both spicy and bitter, a solid malt base supported by a plethora of hops. Tastes spicy from the rye, bitter from the hops, and all around fantastic. Medium-bodied with a slick texture and decent mouth-carbonation, Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA finishes with a blend of spicy and bitter that leaves you wanting more.

Tasted 1/18/12. 12oz bottle. Pours filtered and deep golden amber. Quickly dissipating bone white head that leaves a nice lacing. Aromas of dark cereal aromas and fresh green hops. Nicely bitter and full bodied. Big malt bill and totally doubles the bitterness of the overall palate. Bitter malts and bitter, grapefruit, tea-like, grassy hops. Great balance through the palate. Sweet berry undertones to off set the tart and tangy and round out the brew. So nice and so drinkable!

Another great beer from Sierra Nevada. Great choice in opting to brew Ruthless Rye IPA over Glissade. IPAs are hot and this one surely lives up to its name. Great initial hop aroma with some initial bitterness then comes the peppery flavor from the rye. Easily can drink more than 3 at a sitting.

Basically, a liquid pumpernickel hop sandwich in a bottle. Thanks again SNBC.

Bottle pours a deep amber with a small off white head. Scent is amazing! Rye, hops and fresh bread. Taste is rye, caramel, pepper and bready hoppy bitterness. Very good!.

I like this one...light of body, good hops, and the rye adds some complexity while balancing things out. Hops hit big up front and in to the palate, none on the finish. finish is clean and refreshing. Good addition to Sierras lineup because there isnt anything close to it...fits nicely between pale ale and torpedo in regards to overal hoppiness.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2012 Aroma is mostly spicy rye, with somewhat subdued grapefruity hops taking up the rear. Crystal clear reddish amber with an inch of light fluffy pillowy head. Taste is a good balance of rye spiciness and hoppy bitterness, with the citrusy hops taking a back seat again. Medium palate with prickly carbonation. Love the rye spice but I could use a little more hops personally. Overall a pretty solid malty IPA though.
