Pours a lovely amber color a fluffy white head that laces. Nose is tons of juicy citrus hops, some sweet malts, baked bread and rye spice. Sweet caramel malt entry followed by some orange blossom honey and spice that leads to a slightly bitter citrus finish. Pretty delicious. BrewBoxer (2650) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Bottle. So is this a specialty graibn or an IPA? Its a combo of both to me. Light flavor, foamy head, not overpowering, easy drinking with some pepper, spice and hops. Well ballanced. Excellent Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Bottle: Pours a cloudy orange with a large persistent off-white head, aroma has pine and peppery spice, starts and ends bitter with a crisp ending, medium bodied with playful carbonation. Yum. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - JAN 16, 2012
The beer pours a reddish-amber color with an off-white head. The rye really stands out in the aroma, but there is also a little bit of pine and some biscuit malt notes. The flavor also has a lot of rye in it. I also get some orange and pine from the hops, as well as a little bit of biscuit and bread from the malt which keeps the bitterness low to medium. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. VRBJG (159) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Pours a beautiful clear dark amber with a thin off white head. Smells of citrus and slight hops. Tastes as you would expect a good rye-pa, and it is smooth too. The only negative might be a slightly dry aftertaste that is just a tiny bit dirty. But beyond that...this is a great brew.

12oz bottle pours out in the traditional Sierra Nevada color of a dark amber with an off white foamy head with plenty of lacing. The aroma is of hops and the spiciness of the rye. Incredible flavor. The rye is matched perfectly throughout the glass. That spicy intenseness Ishtar plain wonderful. Yetyou can still taste the hops and medium maltiness. Wonderful flavor. taphandle (1135) - Texas, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Split a 12 oz bottle with a friend. Light brown with a very light feel and flavor which allows the hops to pop. I’ll be grabbing some more of this to try. zizzybalubba (1873) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JAN 16, 2012
12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market in Elizabeth City, NC. Brownish-orange pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of pine needles and wet grass mostly with hints of tangerine. The flavor, while plenty hoppy, is not over-the-top bitterness. The rye, I suppose, offers a nice balance without masking the pine and citrus flavors of the hops. The finish is clean and only then does the bitterness linger for a little while on the tongue. This is a well done IPA. rangerred (989) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - JAN 16, 2012
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Appearance is a clear medium copper with a half inch off white head. Excellent lacing on the sides of the glass.
Aroma is quite spicy like a rye beer should be. Earthy/piny hops are also present creating a nice balance.
Wonderful spicyness from the rye in the taste. A medium-high bitterness is present throughout with piny hop flavors. Some caramel malt is there is well to prop up the hops. Mouthfeel is good.
Overall a very nice beer from Sierra Nevada. One I will definitely pick up more of.

Bottle via StateLine... Poured in to a snifter... Big rocky head that leaves a good lacing on the glass. Amber in color. Nose is peppery....rye, resin hops. Man this beer has a ton flavor. Lots of pepper (spicy), rye notes, resin hop... bitter sweet but not sugary at all. Well balanced...grainy texture, but easy to drink... Overall: Usually not a fan of amber colored beers or ryes but this beer is awesome... Ruthless is kicking ass and not taking names! Side note this beer pairs well with ted nugents stranglehold. Rock on Sierra and TN!
