A: Caramel color with a foamy off-white head that clings to the side of the glass. Lacing.
N: Toffee in the nose, peppercorn right behind. Biscuit and rye bread loaves. Pine and earth. Some grapefruit citrusy and juuuust a touch of pineapple from the hops. More damp fall leaves.
T: Moderately sweet - more bready, and a solid amount of balancing bitterness.
M: Medium body, foamy, prickly carbonation, touch of alcohol burn (though that might be the hops).
O: A very good rye IPA. The hops and the grain complement each other very well, and I will be happy to go back to the box I bought to have the reset of these. Good show. rdixon77 (2876) - Georgia, USA - MAR 13, 2015
Pretty nice rye pa. Reddish brown. Caramel, malty, roasty, with nice dose of rye spice and lasting bitterness. butter14 (12) - Florida, USA - MAR 11, 2015
Strong hop aroma, cloudy amber colored appearance. Strong rye flavor balanced by West Coast hop bill. Strong velvet body from the rye is present, heavy lacing, moderate carbonation levels. Overall delicious, sets the bar for Rye IPAs. terefere (396) - Durham, USA - MAR 11, 2015
Bottle. Pours ruby red, clear, creamy head. Aroma: bread, nuts, caramel, citrus. Taste: roasty, woody, fruity sweetness, sprce, caramel, spices. DrunkSanta410 (960) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - MAR 10, 2015
Bottle at Home. Pours dark copper, thick fluffy off white head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is lightly piney hops, grainy, a bit of spice from the rye. Taste is lightly bitter, spicy rye flavors, mild caramel sweetness. Hops bring faint pine and citrus flavors. The rye dominates the subtle hop fllavors, but the hoppy bitterness is still there. Medium body, high carbonation. It’s a good beer, but not the best Sierra Nevada IPA.

Aroma: Rye, malty sweetness, american/citrus hops
Appearance: amber, clear, off white head
Taste: light sweet, medium bitter
Palate: medium body, sticky texture, bitter dry finish
Overall: Nice Rye IPA. Good balance with malts and hops. Bitter but not overpowering. Peppery/spicy on lips. Nice finish.
Hearty brew for the style. Tastes a little like soil, trees, bark and bread. Maybe a yeasty component. Heavy on the rye even for a rye beer. Some hops but not sure how bitter it is. superspak (5685) - Michigan, USA - MAR 6, 2015
12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 12/4/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, spicy rye, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate rye/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, spicy rye, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness and rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, pine, spicy rye, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate rye/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp/sticky, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent rye IPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate rye/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering. mfhennig (285) - McHenry County, Illinois, USA - MAR 6, 2015
3rd of the SN 4-way ipa variety pack. 12 oz bottle pours a nice amber color with an off-white head. Aroma of spice, pepper and hops. The peppery rye flavor dominates, but a nice ipa finish.
This brew was available in 12 packs the last few years, so far this year only in the variety case. Good brew.
