3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Ruthless Rye pours copper in color, with a two finger width white head. There is great head retention, which leaves a gorgeous, thick lacing on the glass. Ruthless Rye has tons of grapefruit in the aroma, with a little pine thrown in. Taking some sips, there is more grapefruit, pine, lemon, caramel, and maybe a little spice from the rye, but I may be imagining it. I would say the body on Ruthless Rye is a little heavier than medium. Carbonation seems average, and there is a resinous quality to each sip I take.
Overall: A good beer, but I was surprised at how little rye there was in the aroma and flavor. I would buy it again if I wanted a good IPA, but not if I was looking for a rye beer.
January 28th, 2015 - Rye seems to be in now, and whenever a trendy brew style comes and goes, I make a point of seeing what Sierra Nevada does with it. The Rye IPA trend is manifest in the Ruthless Rye IPA, an amber brew with a delicate hop aroma. Brusque and slightly metallic, the steely nature of the nose is complemented by touches of bubble gum and dried cranberry. There is more sweet and spice on the tongue than in the nose, with some hops bitterness playing second fiddle to the slightly sweet and nutty side of the flavor profile. The combination works nicely, and demonstrates Sierra Nevada's continued skill at balance. Chadhami (194) - - MAY 18, 2017
A good, dark IPA. Part of the variety pack, probably best in the box. Smooth and flavorful. weordie (1468) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2017
Pours a wonderful reddish colour with an off white head. Aroma is mainly caramel now, the bottle is a year old though, however I love the smell. Lovely caramel malt flavours mixed with a rye spiceyness. I can only imagine how great this was fresh as it’s top notch a year a on. ghostbeer (250) - Nebraska, USA - DEC 7, 2016
Wonderful hop character with great rye spiciness that is offset nicely by the other malt. It would have been easy for the brewer to go on the heavy end and ruin it, but this is very nice. alex_leit (5246) - Minsk, BELARUS - NOV 9, 2016
Bottle. Amber color, thin white, slightly creamy foam. Aroma: sweet, honey, hops, malt, a little spicy, exotic fruit, plum wine, a little white port. Taste: quite juicy, nice malt sweetness, nectar, pleasant hop bitterness, citrus, pine, spices, a drop of wine.

*Very nice mix of citrus and floral hops on a floral and nice "darker" grainy body. Great citrus in comparison to the rye. Round and deep, easy to drink, great! fombe89 (4230) - Asturias, SPAIN - AUG 29, 2016
