Chocolate, coffee, and great smelling, but bittah. Which isn’t a bad thing. But definitely bitter. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - OCT 2, 2004
A decent stout, a little too carbonated for my taste, but not over the top. Makes a great argument for session stouts, some nice choclate and coffee flavors are present, with a nice hoppy bite in their as well. Mephistefales (47) - USA - OCT 1, 2004
Mmmm... roasty. A very smooth stout with pleanty of body. Nice coffee presence. Enniskillen (2058) - Bakersfield, California, USA - OCT 1, 2004
Chocolate, espresso, and cigar aroma. Heavy chocolate taste to it. Pretty filling and nice. Decent stout. ghawener (1607) - Santa Tecla, EL SALVADOR - SEP 30, 2004
Bottle: Dark brown-black, small beige head. Aroma of burnt coffee and chocolate. Taste is bitter, heavy malty and hoppy distinct stout characteristics.

(bottle) black is black...i want my baby back....aroma like hazelnut coffee... a toasty hop flavor, but nothing spectacular. i don’t find this very drinkable or very exciting in any way. i won’t be getting this again, but i was still able to drink it down. you cant really go wrong with sierra nevada.its easy to find and easy to drink.i can also get this one on tap 2 blocks from my house. Norton (333) - Southside, Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 26, 2004
Draft. Nearly opaque, very deep brownish black. Mini light brown head. Where’s the flavor? All I get out of this is a mild toastiness. Underwhelming from one of the most overrated brewers out there. Didn’t get better as it warmed. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - SEP 24, 2004
Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is just like their porter, roasty coffee, but a bit less up front. A thicker body and less hops bring out a smoother feel for this brew. Good roastiness in the taste with some bitter chocolate and coffee left in the finish. Still could stand for a bit thicker texture to it. Braudog (6763) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - SEP 19, 2004
Beautiful stout ... big monster head on a black nightmare. Light java aroma. Nice nutty and bitter flavors with sweet swirl on top. Nice.
