COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Before Sierra Nevada was a reality, our founders brewed beer at home and dreamed of building a brewery one day. Back then, they brewed the beers they wanted to drink—bold and full of flavor. Stouts had always been a favorite, so when we needed a big and rich beer to test out the brewing system at our fledgling brewery, stout was the obvious choice. Thirty years later, not much has changed. We’re still brewing the beers we want to drink and our classic Stout is the same as it’s ever been—big, rich, bold, black as night and filled with the wild-eyed passion of which dreams are made.
Yeast: Ale yeast
Bittering Hops: Bravo
Finishing Hops: Cascade, Yakima Golding
Malts: Two-row Pale, Munich, Caramel, Carafa, Black, Chocolate & Roasted Barley

Chocolate, coffee, and great smelling, but bittah. Which isn’t a bad thing. But definitely bitter.

A decent stout, a little too carbonated for my taste, but not over the top. Makes a great argument for session stouts, some nice choclate and coffee flavors are present, with a nice hoppy bite in their as well.

Mmmm... roasty. A very smooth stout with pleanty of body. Nice coffee presence.

Chocolate, espresso, and cigar aroma. Heavy chocolate taste to it. Pretty filling and nice. Decent stout.

Bottle: Dark brown-black, small beige head. Aroma of burnt coffee and chocolate. Taste is bitter, heavy malty and hoppy distinct stout characteristics.

(bottle) black is black...i want my baby back....aroma like hazelnut coffee... a toasty hop flavor, but nothing spectacular. i don’t find this very drinkable or very exciting in any way. i won’t be getting this again, but i was still able to drink it down.

Draft. Nearly opaque, very deep brownish black. Mini light brown head. Where’s the flavor? All I get out of this is a mild toastiness. Underwhelming from one of the most overrated brewers out there. Didn’t get better as it warmed.

beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - SEP 24, 2004
Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is just like their porter, roasty coffee, but a bit less up front. A thicker body and less hops bring out a smoother feel for this brew. Good roastiness in the taste with some bitter chocolate and coffee left in the finish. Still could stand for a bit thicker texture to it.

Beautiful stout ... big monster head on a black nightmare. Light java aroma. Nice nutty and bitter flavors with sweet swirl on top. Nice.
