2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle - jet black with a beige head and lacing. Very bland taste. Nothing stands out. It may have won in 1988 and 1989 but it wouldn’t win today. There’s much better out there.
Pretty good drinking stout. Decently full
Bodied. Some roasted nuttiness. Bit of chocolate. Smooth. DraftDodger (1708) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 5, 2017
Copenhagen 5/11 2017. 35,5 cl bottle from Fakta. Sierra Nevadas usual label style with idyllic drawing of what I suppose is the Brewery. Pours opaque dark brown with light beige head. Settles as very thin layer of foam barely covering the surface of the beer. A lot of Lacing. Aroma is strong and rich. Coffee, dark chocolate and notes of bitterness lurking in the background. Medium carbonation and thick sticky palate. Flavor is not as intense as promised by the aroma. Medium sweet followed by quite strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter coffee. Fine surpringly bitter stout. sharkydodson (1803) - St. Petersburg, RUSSIA - OCT 27, 2017

Pours from 12oz bottle(with twist off cap) a near pitch black with some reddish hues and a good 2 finger head of foam that loses some substance during the seesion but by the time my glass is almost empty, there's still a solid layer with plenty of lacing.
The smell is sweetish. I get a lot of caramel and roasted malt and it's nice.
The taste has some sweet malt initially but more flavours come into play. Roasted malt follows with a very small hot chocolate presence...well, it's not so small after all as it's giving a good bitter kick to this stout about midway through and it dominates the finish very nicely but that sweet malty goodness lasts right through from the start to the finish. Man, it's hitting my taste buds on all cylinders and I'm really enjoying sipping on this excellent version of an American Stout and..the lowish abv helps make it a very drinkable brew. As far as I'm concerned, this is a classic American Stout and if you've overlooked this one before, give it a shot and I don't think you'll regret it. Highly recommended! charlotte (5425) - rødovre, DENMARK - OCT 13, 2017

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2017 Næsten sort i glasset. Fin skumtop.
335 ml bottle. Pitch black with a creamy lightly tanned head. Roasted aroma with coffee, caramel malts, chocolate, liquorice, a subtle smoked note. Herbal hops and citrus. Taste is bitter roasted. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and roasted bitter with dark malts. Very fine Stout.
