Before Sierra Nevada was a reality, our founders brewed beer at home and dreamed of building a brewery one day. Back then, they brewed the beers they wanted to drink—bold and full of flavor. Stouts had always been a favorite, so when we needed a big and rich beer to test out the brewing system at our fledgling brewery, stout was the obvious choice. Thirty years later, not much has changed. We’re still brewing the beers we want to drink and our classic Stout is the same as it’s ever been—big, rich, bold, black as night and filled with the wild-eyed passion of which dreams are made.

My favorites of the Sierrs Nevadas. Warming finish, bold body, great taste, but not too big to have another! and another.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2017 Næsten sort i glasset. Fin skumtop. Ristet malt rammer næsen, og bagefter frisk humle. Smagen er som forventet kaffeagtig, brændt og med chokoladenoter. Men der er også en tydelig humlesmag, som går fint i spænd med det mørke.

335 ml bottle. Pitch black with a creamy lightly tanned head. Roasted aroma with coffee, caramel malts, chocolate, liquorice, a subtle smoked note. Herbal hops and citrus. Taste is bitter roasted. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and roasted bitter with dark malts. Very fine Stout.

Light flavor. Kinda nutty. Great appearance with good foam and nice lacing. Flavor was fine but nothing super special. Did not like the smell. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

DOB: 5/9/17

2015 BJCP Category:20B American Stout

AROMA: Strong hop presence of pine, resin and slight citrus (seems a bit too hoppy for the style). Moderate dark malt presence with some coffee character (I’d prefer more maltiness). 8/12

APPEARANCE: Very dark brown hue (39-43 SRM); large tan frothy foam. Retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: High hop flavor and bitterness throughout. Citrusy up front with more dank resiny/piney flavor on the back end. Base malt is dark but not particularly sweet, though there is a coffee and roasted malt taste on the finish. Seems a bit too hoppy for the style; needs more malt flavor. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium-low carbonation. Smooth, though hops and roasted malts leave a slightly drying aftertaste. Feels a bit lighter than 5.8% ABV. No alcohol presence. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A West Coast style stout bordering on Black IPA. Good, but is it really to style? 6/10

En boca malta maltoso tostado moderado-moderado alto, lúpulo floral-terroso moderado-moderado bajo, lúpulo de amargor moderado, ésteres a café, chocolate bitter, plátano, fenol a vainilla, pimienta blanca.
