COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

Picked up a 6 pack from the local liquor store. I head mixed reviews on this beer so i was anxious to try it. Aroma is very solid of hops and lemon. Taste is hoppy and very piney, almost straight pine tasting. A nice bitter aftertaste. Solid IPA.

Bottle 33cl from Mondial de la bire. A copper beer with medium head. Smell is hopy and lemony. Aroma is amazing, rich bitterness, some oily presence and round resin notes around the tong, with a very pleasant and rich malty character, a perfect IPA. Easy to drink, well perfumed, long aftertaste, refreshing very pleasant.

Bottle. Light, clear bronze body with a medium white top. Nose is grapefruit, kiwi and hints of strawberry. Taste is grassy hops, raspberry and kiwi, with some earthy tones in the background. This is a solidly crafted American IPA, and truly a archetypal representative of the genre. Not super great or anything, but certainly a good beer.

Sierra Nevada, you have done well. Your IPA is pounced on by the taste of pepper flakes and mango. And man, that hop taste marinates on the tongue like a buoy of flavor. Dude, beer, you have not disappointed. The complexity here is intricate, unwavering, full of appropriate hubris. Getting smacked by the hand of this liquid demigod is a good love tap. To future cheers!

Pours copper color with nice clarity and fluffy white head. Aroma is not overwhelming, but nice with some pine and perhaps a hint of caramel. Flavor bring a bitterness throughout that is overpowered by caramel sweetness to finish. I could do with a little less caramel, but a solid beer nonetheless.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper/orange color with a frothy off white head. Aroma is of citrus, pine, herbs and a solid amount of both bisquity and bready malts. Flavor is quite hoppy but yet nicely balanced between hops and malts. I get citrus, grapefruit, a tea like herbal character, pine and the solid malt bone with caramel, bisquit and beady malts. Body is medium and only slightly dry compared to other IPAs. Overall a pretty good West Coast tasting IPA, that is nicely balanced between hops and malt.

Bitter and Hoppy. Highly reminiscent of bells hopslam. Commercial description claims its balanced but its really a hop overload.

15-OCT-2010, bottle @home, from "Fish & Beer". Pours reddish amber with almost white lasting white low head. Quite dark for an IPA.Nose is very bitter pine and citrus. Bready malty taste with a looong very bitter finish. The malts makes all the difference. Some malty fruitines or is it from the hops? perhaps both? Anyway a fantastic IPA.

I picked this bottle up at a concession in Yosemite NP, and found that the outdoor setting greatly improved this benchmark American ale even though the snack bar-ish nature of the vendor prevented me from securing adequate glassware into which I could pour it. Well, you rough it when youre in the national parks! Even in the bottle, this smelled just like an ipa should, with plenty of sweet malt lending a balanced, floral note to the abundant hops. The flavor followed suit, with long lingering bitterness that endured long after the initial burst of sweetness had passed away. This certainly deserves its status as a classic American ale that may have been surpassed by subsequent iterations of the style, but showed them the way to do it way back when.
