COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

Reliable go to IPA if its fresh. Perfect balance of malt foundation with just the right amount of hop bitterness. Id prefer more hop nose. I also wish theyd print on bottles the brewed on date. Without that its a crap shoot on whether youre getting fresh or stale ale.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber colour with a medium a little off-white head, nose is hoppy, citric and fruity with a malty and slightly boozy background and notes of mango, grapefruit, orange, caramel and cane sugar, taste is more bready and roasty with a massive bitterness in the finish.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Market Basket. Appearance is hazy orange with minimal sparkle, thin cap of off-white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is light pine, malts, earthy resin. Taste is citrus, milder grapefruit and pine, over malt backbone, late hop bitterness. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and dry, mildly bitter finish. Overall, malts are more apparent in aroma and taste than I would have expected from the name and the hoopla around the Torpedo. Its not that the malts are that assertive but the hops are not bold. Toward the tail end of the hop freshness window, so maybe that accounts for it.

Birra dal colore mediamente ambrato. Schiuma bianca, fine e persistente.

(355 ml bottle) Opens with lots of smoke! Pours a slightly hazy amber beer, with minimal carbonation, and a big fluffy white head. The initial aroma is reminiscent of brandy, then biscuity malts and juicy hops. Grapefruit, pine, lemon peel, and bitter orange marmalade comes through on the palate, with a touch of alcohol. The sweet malt leads to a clean bitter finish. As a pioneer of American Craft, Sierra Nevada holds its own. Whilst modern American IPAs are known for searing bitterness and fruity noses, this old-school beer is beautifully balanced and delicious in its own way.
