A delicious brown ale from Sierra Nevada's Fall sampler box, now I want to find a six pack of this before the season is over! Pours a rich mohagony brown, clear but dense, with a full white foamy head that maintains itself through the pint. Aroma is roasty caramel malt, with a bit of fresh earthy hoppiness, well balanced. Flavor is a wide range of malty notes, ranging from caramel to dry chocolate to mild toasty smokiness, apparently from a touch of smoked malt in the brew. Earthy hops in the finish. Overall quite enjoyable!

Pours a rich black with an off-white head from a bottle. Aroma of rich malts, mostly chocolate, with some faint cola. Flavor similar, rich and malty but not overly sweet, well-balanced. Pretty good beer. alkolord (616) - - OCT 20, 2016
Sehr dunkles rotbraun, leicht hellbrauner Schaum, malzig süßlich in der Nase, knackig im antrunk, Relativ bitter, leichte röstnoten im Abgang, leicht süßlich, schwierig zu beschreiben Boomersmancave1 (133) - Wheatland, Indiana, USA - OCT 18, 2016
I bought the fall sample pack from Sierra Nevada, and this was the best beer they had. The aroma was of malt and bread. The taste was about the same but with a bit of a char or burnt aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but wasn’t one i will go running back to. Carlisle (865) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2016
Bottle. Thick, tan head. Bready malt and caramel flavors. Some roasted malt in the finish.

AROMA: Malty-rich aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, and some toasted bread. Slight earthy hops. No esters. 11/12
APPEARANCE: A chestnut/mahogany shade of brown. Clear. Large tan froth laces and retains well. 3/3
FLAVOR: Moderately-high malt palette with caramel/toffee flavors up front and a dark chocolate on the second half. Sweet, but not cloying. Transitions to a fairly strong bitterness that lingers. Hops are spicy/earthy but do not upstage the malts. Faint smoke character. Well-balanced. 18/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium+ body with medium-low carbonation. Soft, smooth texture. A medium-dry aftertaste of both malts and hops. No alcohol presence. 5/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely a California-style brown ale with plenty of hops, but still well-balanced. The use of smoked malt (though probably a trivial amount) is not to style, though. Otherwise it’d be perfect. 9/10
TOTAL SCORE: 44/50

12 ounce bottle, drunk straight from the bottle. Some sugar in the initial taste. A bit of burnt candy in the finish. Not great brownaler (742) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - SEP 11, 2016
Brown sugar aroma with a maple favored malt with a bit of caramel finish has a slight hop tinge. mcox90 (2161) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 6, 2016
12 oz. bottle, part of a mixed 12 pack, picked up on sale at a local grocery store. That’s one of the things I like about Sierra Nevada, it’s always decent beer and you can always find it on sale. Anyway, beer pours a clear cola brown with some red highlights and a one finger fluffy beige head. Toffee, caramel aroma. Flavor is sweet. Malt forward with a full, smooth body. Easy drinking.
