Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

A subdued aroma of malt, pours a clear brown color, a dry feel with a taste of malt and a chalky malt finish.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2016 Dark brown color, thin lace. Rich malt flavor, light flavor, with subtle backend. Ok, but not too exciting.

Draft. Faint coffee grounds aroma. Flavors of rich roasted cocoa, some vegetable stock and more chocolate on the finish. Wonderful!

355 ml bottle, in Nevada City. Reddish brown colour, off-white head. Malty and nutty aroma and flavour, with notes of burnt caramel. Moderate hops in the finish. Im sorry, but brown ales like this one rarely make me ecstatic. This one is no exception, even though it is made by the capable brewers of Sierra Nevada. Nothing wrong with it, just not my favourite style.

Poured from a bottle. Delicious choice! Small head and little lacing, but creamy texture nonetheless. Terrific clear amber color. Nutty and sweet, interesting.

After a string of downright boring Brown Ales, Tumbler gave me just the kind of upper I needed to keeping seeking out the style. And this truly is a beautiful representation of the Brown Ales potential. With elements of chocolate, smoke, nuts, toasted barley, subtle coffee, and some citrusy, mildly bitter hops, Tumbler is far from the watered-down levels that Brown Ales sometimes succumb to. This is a fall classic thatll stick around for years to come.

Pours hazy dark chestnut brown with a fat and foamy tan head. Aroma is bready malt with a touch of toast and yeast. Taste is roasted malts, a bit of cocoa and some mild backing bitterness that lasts into the aftertaste. A bit smoky. A nice brown ale with a touch of sourness.

Pours clear but dark brown with chestnut highlights, a rocky off white head and good lacing. Aroma of dark bread and cola with light floral smell. Taste has a bit of malt sweetness, toasted and roasted malt character, a bit of graininess, some herbal and citrus notes and mild bitterness. Finishes dry with mild bitterness. Light/medium body with moderate carbonation. Clean and well made.

Burly aroma of caramel and roasted malts are noticeable immediately. Pours a dark brown mahogany body with half inch of tan head. Bold flavors of molasses, charred wood, and nutty malts. Mild bitters through the finish. Nice medium bodied beer for the fall season.
